Alliance, Sigma Nearly Toppled By North Miss, Windsor, While Aurora Dismantle Durham 06/08/2019, 3:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Alliance FC were forced into comeback win by a snarling North Miss Panthers side to preserve their position at the top of the men's table, while Aurora showed their early-season form will continue with a dominating 5-0 win over Durham. Elsewhere, Windsor TFC scored their first home goal of the season and pushed a talented Sigma FC side to the last in an exciting 5-3 win for the Mississauga-based academy. .............................................................................................. Alliance United's second-half comeback extended their undefeated streak to start the season after toppling 10-man North Mississauga SC in a 3-2 victory at Mount Joy on Thursday night. Kenny Lioutas (57') ignited the revival when he smashed a free kick into the net past Panthers' keeper Jared Maloney. Not long after, Milan Beader (68') won the ball in the final third and launched a shot from distance to level the score. Anselmo Kim (77') completed the home team's resurgence when he finished a chance after a scramble in-the-box from a corner kick, the final dagger in the hearts of a depleted North Miss side missing Tristan Watson after he was sent off in the 71st minute. Despite conceding for the first time this season, Alliance United kept their undefeated streak alive and remain in first place after six games, while North Mississauga lost their first game of 2019. Sundin Esperance (24') opened the scoring for the Panthers when he struck a low free kick past every defender in the box, beating Alliance goalkeeper Praveen Ahilan at back post as Alliance conceded their first goal of the season. Jordan Prescod (47') doubled the lead with an excellent strike from 25 yards to start the second half. Prescod's goal was only the second shot of the match for North Miss, but they made every chance count. The two shots would prove to be the only ones they would get all game as Alliance controlled the pace the rest of the way, surgically picking apart the wounded Panthers to finish the comeback and end the night to send the home fans home with smiles. Alliance United (5-0-1) remain in first place with 16 points. Their goal differential is at +10 (12 GF, 2 GA). Alliance will next play Aurora FC at Mount Joy Turf Field, Markham, on Sunday, June 16 (9 p.m.). North Mississauga (2-1-2) are in eighth place with eight points. Their goal differential is at +1 (6 GF, 5 GA). The Panthers will next play Durham Untied FA at Paramount Fine Foods Centre 1, Mississauga, on Friday, June 14 (7:45 p.m.). Aurora United FC defeated Durham United FA (DUFA) 5-0 on Friday night of Matchweek 6 with goals from Ferrazzo (2'), Vilela (37' pk), Fayehun (47', 60') and Ferrari (52'). Aurora came out the gates strong with a goal from Ferrazzo inside the first few minutes. DUFA responded with heavy pressure on Aurora all over the pitch but Aurora did well to keep the passes crisp and kept majority of possession for the whole game. Once the game settled, DUFA winger Wong created countless chances for his teammates by beating his defender with speed and sending crosses in to the box. Unfortunately for DUFA, none of the chances ended up in the back of the net. Aurora would take control of the game after Vilela converted a penalty just before half-time, while captain Fayehun thunderously headed in a cross sent in from a corner kick immediately after the restart. A few minutes later, Aurora midfielder Ferrari took advantage of miscommunication between DUFA defenders and raced past everyone to converted and increase the lead to 4-0. Fayehun would then find the back of the net for the second time with a brilliant left-footed strike from distance - definitely the goal of the match. Aurora FC will next play Alliance United FC on June 16 (9 p.m.) at Mount Joy, Markham. DUFA will next play North Mississauga SC on June 14 (7:45 p.m.) at Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Mississauga. Sigma FC defeated Windsor TFC 5-3 in an exciting high-scoring match at the University of Windsor Stadium on Friday night. Goals for Sigma FC came from Stoddart (16'), Morgado (27'), Ghaffur (44') and Allen (50', 80'), while Windsor TFC goals came from Ferreira DaSilva (5'), N. Pio (51') and Mulder (56' pk). Windsor TFC started off strong with an early goal by Ferreira DaSilva in the first minutes of the game, smashing a shot from 35 yards out that flew in to the keeper's left and registering Windsor TFC's first home goal of the season. But Sigma FC came storming back, leveling the score just over ten minutes later through Stoddart before taking the lead 2-1 when Morgado headed the ball in after a well-taken corner. Near the end of the first half, Ghaffur (44') scored a key third goal for Sigma to give Windsor TFC a bleak outlook going into the second half. Then, to make things worse for the hosts, Leaford Allen scored in just the first five minutes after the restart to give Sigma FC a commanding 4-1 lead. But Windsor were not deterred, with Noah Pio from Windsor TFC retaliating quickly just a minute later after a tidy dribble past the Sigma GK to beat him with a shot into the far side corner. This goal gave Windsor some energy and only five minutes later found a breakthrough again through Mulder's well-taken penalty. With only one goal away from the comeback draw, Windsor TFC pushed forward and nearly did tie up the game except for Sigma FC keeper, Olatunji, who made a spectacular diving saving save to maintain the lead. In the end, Sigma FC won 5-3 when Allen scored his second goal of the game following a defensive error from Windsor TFC. Windsor's key players were Tyrone Mulder, who scored a penalty and had some dangerous chances throughout the match as well as Johnathan Agapito who controlled the centre of the midfield well. Sigma FC's key player didn’t score but Hilli Goldhar made many dangerous runs and had many opportunities to score. The dynamic play of Tyriq Armstrong also gave Windsor TFC's defence a tough time. Windsor TFC will next play Masters on June 15 (7 p.m.) at the University of Windsor Stadium, Windsor. Sigma FC will next play Darby FC on June 14 (8 p.m.) at the Whitby Soccer Centre Dome, Whitby.
