Pro Stars Take Down Sigma, Masters, Vaughan Dominate, And North Miss Grabs First Win 05/12/2019, 8:45pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Pro Stars FC took home a big win on Saturday, taking down perennial top side, Sigma FC, in Brampton, while Vaughan and Masters put in dominant performances over Unionville and Toronto Skillz. Meanwhile, very little was between OSU Force and North Mississauga SC in Ottawa on Saturday, with one late penalty making all the difference. ..................................................................................................... After a very even game in Ottawa between Ottawa South United and North Mississauga, the final score ended at 1-0 in favour of the visitors. The game was very high energy as teams searched for the opening goal, but it took until the 88th minute for all the action to happen. North Mississauga were awarded a penalty taken by Morris, and although the OSU keeper made the save the linesman flagged for an infraction. North Mississauga were rewarded the retake and that’s when Habibzi (89') put the spot kick away bottom right corner to give his team a 1-0 win. OSU will next play Alliance United FC on May 19 (2 p.m.) at Mount Joy Turf, Markham. North Mississauga will next play FC London on May 18 (7 p.m.) at German Canadian FC Stadium Field, London. Pro Stars record their first three points of the season with an exciting 3-2 win in their home opener against Sigma FC. All the goals came in the second half, with Sigma's Goldhar (53'), Allen (90') getting on the score sheet, as well as Pro Stars' Arora (60'), A. Rahman (64'), Polancec-Marin (77'), in a match that was played at a high intensity from start to finish. The first half ended with both teams creating chances on goal and enjoying spells in possession, but failing to convert their chances and one was left to wonder how the second half would pan out. Sigma started the goal-fest shortly after the restart as Goldhar converted after a beautiful solo run into a goal to open his account for the season and put his team in front. Minute later, Pro Stars responded as Arora took down a lovely pass and converted from close range. Within three minutes, Pro Stars managed to take the lead after A. Rahman slotted home with a first time finish. Polancec-Marin made the most of his substitution by giving his team a two-goal cushion with just over 10 minutes left after he scored a lovely volley from just inside of the box. Sigma managed to get one back just before the whistle after Allen concluded a powerful run past the defender with a nice finish into the back of the net. However, it proved to be too late for Sigma to salvage the result and Pro Stars came away with their first win of the season. Pro Stars will next play Windsor TFC on May 17 (8 p.m.) at the University of Windsor, Windsor. Sigma FC will next play Master's FA Saints on May 18 (8 p.m.) at L'Amoreaux, Toronto. Vaughan Azzurri scored two goals either side of half-time to see out a comfortable 4-0 away victory at Unionville Milliken SC. An early own goal (1') as well as strikes from Fathazada (39', 55') and Velastegui (39') secured victory for the visitors. Vaughan Azzurri were the visiting team but adopted all the initiative in the early minutes. They scored in the first sixty seconds after a low cross deflected off of defender Sean Kim and ended up in the Unionville net (1'). The away side controlled the tempo of the game for the first thirty minutes, although Unionville managed to create a few opportunities against the run of play. Unionville were finding runners with passes over the top but the Vaughan fullbacks did well to recover the space and see out any danger. Some confusion in the box led to a second goal for Vaughan (39’), scored by Fathazada who was actively involved throughout the match. The hosts tried to play at a higher tempo in the second half, but a great individual effort by Velastegui (50') found the bottom corner to put the visitors 3-0 up. Unionville tried everything to salvage a result but pushing numbers forward meant they were left exposed at the back, and the gaps were quickly exploited by Fathazada (55'), who slotted home for Vaughan’s fourth goal. Although the game became more balanced in the latter stages, Unionville were unable to create a clear-cut opportunity and Vaughan held on for a comfortable victory. Unionville will next play Durham United FA on May 17 (8 p.m.) at Pickering Soccer Centre, Pickering. Vaughan will next play Darby FC on May 18 (3 p.m.) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.
