Match Recap: Toronto FC II vs. Ottawa Fury FC September 26, 2018 8:31PM EDT Eric Giacometti TORONTO – A controversial penalty proved to be the difference on Saturday night as Toronto FC II dropped a 1-0 result to Ottawa Fury FC at Lamport Stadium. The inter-provincial derby was a cagey affair from the opening whistle with a total of six yellow cards handed out over the course of the match. The night’s defining moment came in the 30th minute as defender Tim Kubel tracked back towards his own goal. The University of Louisville product made a standing challenge on Ottawa’s Donijah Reid causing referee Yusri Rudolf to point to the spot. Steevan Dos Santos stepped up and converted the ensuing penalty kick past Caleb Patterson-Sewell. Matthew Srbely hoped to provide a late lifeline for Toronto FC II as the midfielder appeared to be taken down in the area in the 89th minute, but the referee waved play on ensuring the three points for the visitors. Toronto FC II face a quick turnaround as the Young Reds hit the road for a matchup with the Charleston Battery on Saturday, September 29.
