KICKERS SUFFER DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF TORONTO By Patrick Wood, 08/12/18, 10:00PM EDT Toronto FC II 1, Richmond Kickers 0 TEAM SCORE GOALSCORERS TORONTO FC II (2-16-3, 9 points, 16th East) 1 Hamilton (Fraser) 48' RICHMOND KICKERS (5-14-3, 18 points, 14th East) 0 TORONTO — (Sunday, August 12, 2018) — The Richmond Kickers (5-14-3) suffered defeat on the road to Toronto FC II (2-16-3) Sunday night at BMO Field. Coming out of halftime scoreless, Jordan Hamilton scored the lone goal of the match to down the Kickers. The Kickers had a chance just three minutes into the match to try to get on the scoreboard. Brian Shriver controlled the ball on the right side of the field after a deflected pass from Raul Gonzalez reaches him. Luiz Fernando started a run to the top of the six-yard box as Shriver sent in a perfectly timed cross. Fernando gets a touch on the ball, but sends his shot over the goal. Four minutes later and Trevor Spangenberg is called into action to keep Toronto out of the back of the net. Dante Campbell was able to pounce on a loose ball just outside the Richmond box. He quickly played the ball back for Liam Fraser, who went for the one-time shot on frame. Spangenberg was able to get a hand on the ball to tip it over for a corner kick. Richmond continued the pressure into the 13th minute. Scott Thomsen fed the ball up the left side of the field for Luiz Fernando inside the Toronto box. He looked up and played a quick pass to the feet of Heviel Cordovés making a near post run. With Robert Boskovic pressuring, Cordovés put his shot just wide left of the goal as he was trying to find the opener. One minute later and it was Heviel Cordovés with a chance again. From the center of the field, Fernando found Matt Bolduc with space on the right side of the field. He found Cordovés making a run inside towards the near post, and put his shot wide as Lars Eckenrode is there pressuring. Luca Uccello had his shot saved by Spangenberg in the 19th minute. Liam Fraser took control of the ball inside the center circle, and looked up to find Uccello in space out wide on the right flank. He continued his run all the way up the field into the Richmond box before he tried a shot towards the far post. Spangenberg fell to his right to make the save. Another save from Trevor Spangenberg kept the game level in the 26th minute. Tsubasa Endoh was able to get control of a loose pass by Raul Gonzalez and made a run towards goal. He cut back across the top of the Kickers box and went for a shot at the near post as Spangenberg dove to his right and tip it wide of goal. Three minutes into the second half, Toronto would break the deadlock through Jordan Hamilton. Aidan Daniels played the ball to Liam Fraser in the middle of the field. He looked up and found Hamilton making a run in behind the Kickers backline. Hamilton just calmly slotted the ball past Spangenberg and into the near post for the opener. Brian Shriver had a chance to get Richmond back into the match in the 53rd minute. Matt Bolduc found the right flank empty and made a run. Matthew Srbely came in to try and stop Bolduc, as he played the ball back for Raul Gonzalez. He went for a quick pass to get the ball to Shriver. After two touches, Shriver went for a shot that ended up in the hands of Caleb Patterson-Sewell. A last ditch clearance by Tim Kübel kept Brian Shriver off the scoresheet in the 77th minute. Luiz Fernando gained control of the ball right at the midfield line and quickly turned. Shriver started a run inside as Fernando slotted the ball through. He tried to go for the far post as Kübel trailed the play cleared away the chance. Heading into stoppage time, the Kickers had back to back chances to try and level the score. The first came from a Brian Shriver corner kick. His cross in was able to get all the way to Braeden Troyer at the far post. He looked to head it back towards goal as Eckenrode was there to clear it away. After winning another corner kick on the opposite side, Matt Bolduc quickly found Luiz Fernando in space at the top of the Toronto box. He looked for the near post, as his shot skipped wide. Richmond continue their Canadian road trip and travel to face Ottawa Fury FC this Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at TD Place. That match will be available to stream online on ESPN+. The Kickers return home to City Stadium this Saturday night for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff as they host Penn FC and Family Fest.
