After a road trip that featured two Lamar Hunt US Open Cup matches and a return to league duties at away pitches, Rush Soccer’s First Team capped off its month-long odyssey at Nashville SC on June 2. The home side earned a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but a comeback seemed in the cards after Jerry Ortiz delivered an unerring corner kick that Ken Tribbett converted with his head to cut the lead to one. However, a late goal from Nashville ended Penn FC’s chances of stealing a draw. Penn FC Head Coach Raoul Voss and his squad are ecstatic to finally enjoy a matchday in Harrisburg. “It’s great,” Voss said. “It’s fantastic to play in front of our own fans at home. It’s just different to play and to sleep in your own bed. It’s just completely different for the mind and everything.” The rematch between Penn FC and Toronto FC II is exactly one month since the clubs faced off in Toronto on May 9. Toronto’s defense frustrated the Penn FC offense despite going down to 10 men in the 43rd minute after Shaan Hundal elbowed Haruna Shaibu on an aerial challenge. The Blue and White bombarded the goal and recorded 15 shots and four corner kicks in the second half. Finally, rookie Miguel Jaime’s 87th-minute strike from 30-plus yards out on the left wing earned the team its first road win of the season. Toronto FC II has lost six straight matches including its loss to Penn FC, but the MLS affiliate is hungry to earn its first win of the season. During the streak, Toronto FC II proved it can score at will as it scored four goals in a losing effort at Atlanta United II while scoring two more in a losing effort against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The team will look to tighten up its defensive formation to steal a result on the road. Following a difficult result in Nashville, Voss is making sure his squad is locked in for a crucial match at home. “It’s going to be a completely different team than we faced in Nashville obviously,” Voss said. “They are pretty much in the bottom of the standings but a good team. They have a lot of young talented players so for us we need a little more consistency in our game. Things we showed in the Nashville game [were] not consistent enough. That’s the main thing we need to change.” On top of playing a match, the team is hosting Star Wars night and post-match fireworks provided by Sky Shooters. Pre and post-match parties will also be hosted by the team -- beforehand at Skyline Sports Complex and afterward at Mr. G’s Sports Bar. The match against Toronto FC II marks the start of a two-match homestand for Penn FC. The team will host Richmond Kickers on June 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets for both matches are on sale at pennfc.com/tickets.
