Penn Grabs Late Winner Against Toronto By NICHOLAS MURRAY - nicholas.murray@uslsoccer.com, 05/09/18, 1:18PM EDT Jaime scores only goal as TFC II sets club-record with sellout crowd of 4,100 TORONTO – Miguel Jaime scored a late winner for Penn FC in a 1-0 victory against Toronto FC II on Wednesday afternoon as Toronto welcomed a club-record, sellout crowd of 4,100 to Monarch Park Stadium. Toronto almost took the lead in the second minute as Shaan Hundal’s low cross found Malik Johnson at close range, but the forward sent his finish over the crossbar. Chances were few and far between for the rest of the half, but two minutes before the break Toronto was reduced to 10 men as Hundal was sent off after a high challenge on Penn’s Haruna Shaibu. The visitors were denied the opening goal 11 minutes into the second half when Toronto goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo made a point-blank save to keep out Penn’s Harri Hawkins, and Cavalluzzo came up big again following the ensuing corner kick as Penn was awarded a penalty kick for a push in the penalty area. Tommy Heinemann stepped up to shoot for the visitors but was turned away as Cavalluzzo got down well to his left to save. Penn continued to press with its man-advantage, but just as it appeared the side would be unable to find a breakthrough what appeared to be intended as a cross from the left by Miguel Jaime floated all the way to the back post and in, eluding the last-gasp effort by Cavalluzzo to keep it out. Scoring: 87’ – PEN – Miguel Jaime (Kyle Venter) #TORvPEN: Highlights and Opta Box Score Three Things That Matter: 1. After being sunk by a late goal in its last outing, Penn FC got late salvation itself to take its second win in three games on what appeared to be a fortuitous goal by Miguel Jaime with three minutes to go. Up a man since late in the first half, Penn had repeatedly been turned away over the course of the second half until Jaime found space on the left side 40 yards from goal. Appearing to aim for an angled cross toward target forward Tommy Heinemann, Jaime’s delivery instead drifted goalward, and caromed in just out of the reach of TFC II goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo for the only goal of the game. 2. The late goal was cruel to Cavalluzzo, who had once again shone in helping keep the hosts in the game after Shaan Hundal’s 43rd-minute red card. Back-to-back saves to deny Harri Hawkins from point-blank range and Tommy Heinemann added to an already-impressive highlight reel for the 25-year-old shot-stopper, who finished in the top 10 in the USL a season ago with 79 saves. That Cavalluzzo appeared to suffer a late injury on Jaime’s goal as he scrambled to try and claw it away only added to a tough ending for the Young Reds. 3. The past week was a critical stretch for Penn given the short breaks between three games, and to come out of it with six points to reach double-digits for the season was a good return for the side as it put itself into the mix in the middle of the Eastern Conference standings. With time to recuperate before next week’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match and its next league outing on May 26, the side can continue to try and build its way into becoming a threat to reach the USL Cup Playoffs. USLSoccer.com Man of the Match Harri Hawkins, Penn FC – Hawkins was denied a goal by a standout save but was excellent in midfield throughout as he won 11 of 12 duels and completed 68 of 78 passes in the contests.
