Match Recap: Toronto FC II at Charlotte Independence March 24, 2018 9:22PM EDT Adam Krueger Toronto FC II dropped its second match of the season following a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Charlotte Independence on Saturday night. The hosts jumped out to the early lead as Jorge Herrera worked his way into the 18 and slipped the ball past debutant Caleb Patterson-Sewell. It was the Columbian’s second goal in as many games. The Reds had a pair of chances late in the first half as Matthew Srbely had the ball fall to him in the 18 but Andrew Dykstra made the reaction stop. The ball was recycled back into the Independence area but Ben Spencer’s header was directed high. Just before the halftime whistle, the Jacks struck again as Caleb Calvert sprung up to a well-delivered cross to head home the second goal. Patterson-Sewell did well to keep the Jacks off the board for the remainder of the game. Ghanaian midfielder Gideon Waja made his debut coming on as a substitute in the 77th minute. A late push from the Reds could not yield any goals and the match ended 2-0. The Young Reds are back in action next Saturday, March 31 as they host their rivals Ottawa Fury FC at BMO Field in their 2018 home opener. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM. Ticket information will be released early next week.
