Brace For Armstrong As Oakville Finish Season With 4-0 Win Over Darby 09/17/2018, 1:45pm EDT By Kacian Whyte Oakville Blue Devils wrapped up their regular season on Sunday with a resounding 4-0 victory over Darby FC, securing third spot in the play-off zone. A scorching hot turf set the scene as Blue Devils faced off against the white and navy blue side Darby FC. The match kicked off with Darby's possessions of the ball, but was quickly overturned as Oakville seized control of the game. Despite's Oakville's efforts to break through Darby's back-line, the Darby defence proved to be effective for much of the first half as they successfully managed to shut down attacks led by Oakville's speedster and Golden Boot leading striker, Anthony Novak. First half goals did not come until Tyriq Armstrong (42', 45' + 2') showed his own blistering pace to score two very similar goals. The highlight of the two was Armstrong managing to carry the ball from half, beat two defenders, and fire the ball home from the right corner of the 18 yard box. Oakville went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead. The goals continued into the second half as half-time substitute Judah Hernandez (57') secured the insurance goal after a give-and-go with captain Filip Vilela. Less than two minutes later, Vilela (58') came back to extend the lead 4-0 and leave no doubt of the victory for Oakville. Oakville finish league regular play with a record of 10-1-5. Joint-second in the table on points with FC London, Oakville will go into the play-offs in third position given the first league tiebreaker of number of wins in regular season (Blue Devils 10 to FC London 11) Darby continue their pursuit of the playoff zone with just one point needed from their final two regular season matches. Darby will next host Sigma FC on September 19 (8 p.m.) at the Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.
