September 10, 2018 League 1 Ontario--ProStars FC vs Woodbridge Shooters game review (from League 1 Ontario website)
Rahman Finish Gives Pro Stars 1-0 Upset Over Woodbridge 09/10/2018, 3:15pm EDT By Anthony Gallo One goal is all Pro Stars FC needed to grab all three points over hosts Woodbridge Strikers in League1 Ontario men's division play. Heading into the match, the Strikers were coming off a last minute draw against the defending champions, Oakville Blue Devils, during the Labour Day long weekend. With a win against Pro Stars, the Strikers would have ended their 2018 regular season with nine wins and 31 points. Even though Pro Stars FC are coming off three straight losses (TFC III (3-2); Sigma FC (2-0); Darby FC (3-0), the Brampton based club had three straight draws prior to their recent run of losses. The visiting side started the match with the majority of possession deep in Woodbridge's half, pressing the home side continuously. Woodbridge would get the first shot off in the 8th minute, but were unable to get a shot on target until the 63rd minute. A quick turnover near centre-field saw speedy winger Uday Arora go one v one with a Woodbridge defender down the left wing and play a low pass to a wide open Adel Rahman (18') on the right side, who finished his first goal of 2018. The rest of the first-half saw a determined Woodbridge side try to level the match up again, but interceptions and mis-timed runs were a problem for the remainder of the match. Pro Stars keeper, Aaron Peters, wasn't kept very busy throughout the match, but when called upon the '97 born keeper was a big reason why his team came out with three points. On the other side of the pitch, Woodbridge keeper Roberto Stillo bounced back after giving up an early goal and denied his opponents from ten yards out in added-time. With the win, Pro Stars now improve to 2-8-4 (10 points) and jump over the likes of Ottawa South United, Aurora FC and Windsor TFC at the base of the table. As for Woodbridge, they end their 2018 regular season with an 8-4-4 record (28 points) and await for the rest of the men's division to play out and see who they will take on in the playoffs. Next up for Pro Stars FC will be a home match against Alliance United FC on September 15 (8:30 p.m.) at Victoria Park, Brampton.
