September 9, 2018 League 1 Ontario--Sigma FC vs Alliance United game review (from League 1 Ontario website)
Two For Anagho-Ntamark As Sigma Stroll To 3-0 Over Alliance 09/09/2018, 12:00pm EDT By Johnny Stancati Three first half goals were enough for Sigma FC to secure a 3-0 victory over Alliance United FC. With the win, Sigma FC move two points clear atop the League1 Ontario men's division with two matches remaining. The home side came out to a flying start after Alliance United gave the ball away cheaply, seeing Charlie Anagho-Ntamark (5') play the ball out wide to Kadell Thomas, who cut it back for Anagho-Ntamark to open the scoring. Sigma were again on the front foot when David Velastegui (9') dribbled into the penalty area and was brought down clumsily by an Alliance defender. Velastegui would step up and slot his effort home, sending Alliance keeper Mark Rogal diving the wrong way. Alliance had a great opportunity to cut the deficit to one when Bogdan Poliakhov pressed hard to force a turnover and was sprung clear on goal, but Sigma keeper Triston Henry was there to make the save. That miss would prove costly, as it was Anagho-Ntamark (24') again causing trouble when he rose highest on a set-piece to grab his brace and put his side three goals to the good. Sigma had one final chance before the interval to extend their lead, when Thomas danced past his marker and went one-on-one with the Alliance keeper, but Rogal was quick off his line to make the save and close out the half. It was much of the same in the second frame as Alliance found it difficult to break a Sigma defence that have only conceded seven goals this season. Meanwhile, Sigma continued to launch waves of attack. Thomas had a great opportunity to get on the score sheet when Tristan Borges played a bouncing ball over the top for the speedy winger but would send his effort well over the bar. The final chance of the match fell once again to the home side as Mansoor Alfazy played in a cross from the left, which Anagho-Ntamark was able to direct on goal but Rogal was again there to make the save. With the win, Sigma FC move to 35 points and will prepare for a match-up vs Vaughan Azzurri that could see them clinch first spot in the regular season. Catch the match on September 14 (7:30 p.m.) at the Ontario Soccer Centre Stadium, Vaughan. Alliance remain on 18 points with their playoff hopes resting in their own hands. With two matches remaining, the League1 Ontario newcomers can clinch a playoff berth with two victories, though they may manage to get in without them - pending results elsewhere. They now prepare for a visit to Pro Stars FC on September 15 (2 p.m.) at Victoria Park, Brampton.
