All Square Between Oakville, Woodbridge As Rayne Gets Equalizer In Added Time

Woodbridge SC tied Oakville Blue Devils 1-1 on the road after a late goal in added time from substitute 
Tyrell Rayne (90' + 2'.

The first half saw Oakville getting more chances on goal, having success down the flanks and off their four corners.

A best chance for Oakville would come in the 16th minute when Rajvir Khalon’s corner found Logan Podrebarac in the box, 
as his header just missed the top right corner.

Jose De Sousa would have the best chances for Woodbridge in the half, with a free-kick and a volley both veering 
just off target.

A great chance for Oakville came five minutes before half when Khalon unleashed a shot outside the box that sent 
Woodbridge keeper Roberto Stillo diving to make the fingertip save. Stillo was kept on his toes all game, doing well 
to come out and collect in the air and deny goal-scoring opportunities for Oakville.

In first half added time, a corner was swung and Oakville's Konner McNamara was fouled by Woodbridge's Matthew Strangis 
in the box. The referee awarded the home team a penalty kick for the foul.

Current men's Golden Boot leader, Oakville's Anthony Novak (45+1'), stepped up and slotted the ball down the middle, 
beating Stillo and breaking the stalemate to put his team up 1-0.

Tensions ran high during half-time as the teams jostled en route to the dressing rooms, before settling into 
re-strategize for the final 45 minutes.

Woodbridge created more chances in the second half but couldn't quite get a large enough quantity to trouble the keeper, 
hitting five off target and only two on. Their best chance would come in the 60th minute when substitute Tyrell Rayne 
was in on goal, but his shot was denied by the kick-save of Oakville's keeper, Lucas Birnstingl.

Oakville had more possession over the visitors with three shots on target for a total of nine shots this half.

During the last 15 minutes of the match, Oakville applied increased pressured and made good chances on target from Novak, 
Khody Ellis, and Tyriq Armstrong.

Woodbridge's Stillo was making all sorts of saves, with diving hands, fingertips, and kick-saves, to keep the visitors 
in the match.

Kahlon was an important part of Oakville's attack, causing turnovers in the middle third, creating chances, and firing 
shots just off target.

Finally, after a mistake from an Oakville defender, Woodbridge's Rayne was in on goal and neatly put one away into 
the bottom right corner past Birnstingl to tie the match 1-1.

Both teams battled for 90 minutes and walked away with a point each on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Oakville Blue Devils will next play North Mississauga on September 8 (8 p.m.) at Hershey Centre 1, Mississauga. 

Woodbridge Strikers will next host Pro Stars FC on September 9 (5 p.m.) at Vaughan Grove 1, Woodbridge for their final game 
of the regular season.
