A thrilling matchup between the home side Woodbridge Strikers and Sigma FC ended with a 3-0
victory for a ten-men Woodbridge side.

Second place Sigma entered the game with the lowest goals against total (4) in the League1
men's division.

Both teams looked to begin the match with intensity, hoping to cause their opponents to stumble
out of the gates.

The two sides shared possession during the first 45 minutes, trading opportunities to strike first.

Sigma would come close to taking an early lead in the 18th minute, but a mis-timed run near
the top of the Woodbridge 18-yard box saw the ref call back the goal.

After half-an-hour of play, a deep run from Woodbridge midfielder Michael Krzeminski (31')
saw him dribble past his defender on the right side of the goal and place it bottom left from
a tight angle to put the home side up 1-0.

Woodbridge were dealt with a problem right before the half, as central midfielder
Joshua Paredes-Procter earned a yellow and then a straight red card to put his team down a man
going into the last 45 minutes of play.

However, being down a player didn't stop Woodbridge from adding insurance to their early lead,
as striker Stefano Voci (49', 52') put two goals away less than five minutes apart to give
the home side some breathing room.

Voci's first strike on goal was a volleyed effort off a rebound from inside the 18 yard box,
while his second was a well timed through ball off a one v one from Krzeminski, who found his
teammate wide open on the left wing to make it 3-0 before the hour mark.

Sigma were given an opportunity to cut Woodbridge's lead in the 77th minute after a Woodbridge
player took down his opponent inside the penalty area, but Strikers' keeper Roberto Stillo
made two huge saves — one off the initial penalty shot and another from a rebounded
effort — to see his team stay ahead late in the match.

When the ref signalled for full-time, the undermanned Woodbridge would remarkably earn all
three points and see them trail second place Sigma FC by five points.

With the win, the Strikers improve to 8-3-3 (27 points) on the campaign and sit in fifth in the
men's division with two matches remaining.

As for Sigma, they stay in second place with a 10-1-2 (32 points) record, three more points
than third place FC London 9-2-2 (29 points) and one point shy of league leaders'
TFC III 10-2-3 (33 points)

The Woodbridge Strikers will look for a second straight win when they visit the reigning League1
champions, Oakville Blue Devils, at Bronte Athletic Field, Oakville on September 2 (4 p.m.)

Next up for Sigma FC will be a home match against first year club Alliance United FC
on September 8 (4 p.m.) at Hershey Centre 1, Mississauga.
