August 12, 2018 League 1 Ontario--Masters FA Saints vs FC London game review (from League 1 Ontario website)
FC London Extend Unbeaten Streak To Seven With 4-2 Victory Over Masters 08/12/2018, 7:00pm EDT By Jonathan Cheng FC London powered their way through at L'Amoreaux on Saturday, extending their undefeated streak to seven games following a 4-2 victory over Master's Futbol. James Pucci (1') set the tone early with a goal from inside the box, set up by Mohammad Nafar with a centring pass. The strike was the earliest goal in FC London's season, raising the bar for the rest of the match. Connor Wilson (36') later put his name on the scoresheet with a deft turn that put him through on goal. The ball he slid into the far corner was his ninth goal in London's seven-game undefeated streak, putting him in the lead for the League1 Ontario golden boot race with 10 to his name. In the midst of yellow cards and substitutions, Ethan Gopaul (63') extended London's lead to three with a low finish. Master's goalkeeper Spiridon Koskinas stepped off his line to rush Gopaul but was unable to make the save. Jose De Sousa (78', 83') started the Saints' comeback with a brace in the latter minutes of the second half, and Masters were close to getting the equalizer if not for some tight offside calls. De Sousa increases his goal tally to six for the season. London substitute Benjamin Vyfschaft (85') put the final nail in the coffin to end Master's comeback hopes, jumping to tap-in a free kick at the back post. London continue their summer hot streak, going undefeated since a June 3 loss to perennial powerhouse, Sigma FC. In that span of seven games, only the match against Unionville-Milliken ended in a draw. Master's fortunes have been quite the opposite of their opponents. The Saints have yet to win since the beginning of June, putting their playoff chances on thin ice. Masters will need to win the majority of their remaining five games, and most of them are up against the teams fighting for the eighth seed. FC London (8-1-2) sit comfortably in a playoff position with 26 points, tied for first with TFC III and Sigma FC. They push their goal differential up to +17 (31 GF, 14 GA). London return home to the Forest city, and a midweek visit by the Oakville Blue Devils is up next at the German Canadian FC Stadium Field, London on August 16 (8:30 p.m.). Master's Futbol drop further down the table after the loss, finding themselves in 11th place with 11 points. Their goal differential drops to -2 (18 GF, 20 GA). The Saints are away from home in their next match-up against Toronto Skillz FC, set for August 19 (5:00 p.m.) at Birchmount Stadium, Toronto.
