Attendance was about 40 on this hot and humid evening. This game was moved to a more neutral site when for some reason Bill Crothers Turf Center in Markham was not available. Bill Crothers was a Canadian Olympic medal winner in track and field. I haven't been to the school yet but from Google Earth it does have a track around the field. I'm actually glad the time was changed as it would have been a struggle to get to Bill Crothers by 6:00pm from Monarch Park. I would have had to drive rather than take the subway and still haven't figured out where parking is available. The Ontario Soccer Centre is only about the length of three football fields away from Vaughan Grove where the Strikers have their home ground. UM brought their own PA announcer--Ennio Perruzza whom I've known for decades through CNSL/CPSL/CSL days. I mentioned the York Region Shooters guys they brought over from the CSL roster last year but they have some experienced L1O league players too. Captain Tre Crosby played for Vaughan Azzurri last year. Goalie Lucas Birnstingl played for Toronto Skillz last season. Defender Basel Rashrash was with Aurora FC. Somewhere in the mix I missed when UM Halburto Harris earned a Yellow card. Unionville won 3-1 in what was a close game until an injury time UM goal flattered the scoreline.
