June 10, 2018 League 1 Ontario--Sigma FC vs Sanjaxx Lions (from League 1 Ontario website)
Keepers Campbell And Henry The Heroes As Sigma And Sanjaxx Ends Scoreless 06/10/2018, 1:00pm EDT By Kacian Whyte A scoreless game leaves Sigma FC and Sanjaxx Lion earning only a single point each after their meeting at Hershey Centre on Saturday. In the first half of the game, Sigma struggled to find their rhythm and were forced to adjust the game-plan in the sixth minute when their league leading scorer, Marcel Zajac, was replaced by Justin Stoddart after going down with a leg injury. Despite Stoddart's speed and accuracy in getting efforts on target, Sanjaxx's Campbell was an impenetrable wall that stopped all goal efforts from the blues. With possession largely being shared during the first half, the Lions were able to register a few dangerous waves of pressure of their own, as Stefan Nikolic, in particular, battled it out with Sigma's back line - Dominic Samuel, Reggie Laryea, Giuliano Frano, and Kyle Watson. The quartet was successful in denying Sanjaxx any opportunities to put the ball on target. Second half commenced with Sigma applying pressure high up the pitch, which was enough for them to control the tempo and dominate during the second half. But, despite seven shots on net, the blues were unable to finish any of their attempts. Sanjaxx keeper Campbell stretched across net to make saves with his hands, feet, and body. He was able to directly stop 13 of 18 shots that was taken. Sigma's last chance to turn the game around game came in the 88th minute, when Stoddart, who was on a fast break, went down just outside of the box and Sigma was awarded a free-kick. Stoddart was unable to put the ensuing effort on target, however, leaving the final score as 0-0. Currently Sigma is third in the table with the next match on June 16 (4 p.m.) vs. Toronto Skillz FC at the Hershey Centre. 12th place Sanjaxx Lions will host Darby FC at Monarch Park Stadium on June 16 (4 p.m.).
