Masters' De Sousa Finishes Off Vaughan In 3-2 Thriller 06/03/2018, 9:15am EDT By Johnny Stancati Masters FA maintained their incredible start to the 2018 campaign after a 3-2 victory against hosts Vaughan Azzurri. It was Vaughan with the first real chance of the match in the 26th minute when Jarek Whiteman was found free at the back post but sent his effort well over. Sahjah Reid (32') opened the scoring for the visitors soon after, blasting the ball into the back of the net after it fell to him from a scramble in the penalty area. Masters were again on the front foot when Reshon Phillip (38') kept his composure and placed a low shot into the bottom corner past Colm Vance just minutes later. It took Vaughan only two minutes to respond as they marched up the field and pulled one back through Jarred Phillips (40') after a lovely ball into the area. At the half, the visitors led by a score of 2-1. Vaughan began the half quite lively and were rewarded when Whiteman (56') made up for his earlier opportunity and pounced on a loose ball in the area beating Masters keeper Spiridon Koskinas. However, it was the visitors who regained their advantage when Jose De Sousa (70') rose highest and sent a looping header into the upper corner past a helpless Vance with only twenty minutes to go. Masters FA Eddy Dabire was sent off in the 89th minute but his side managed to hold on and collect a valuable three away points with a final score of 3-2. With the result, Masters FA (2-0-2) go two points clear of Vaughan (2-3-0) in the League1 Ontario Men’s standings. Masters will face a tough test vs Toronto FC III on June 9th before travelling to Alliance United on June 17th. Vaughan will travel to Windsor on June 10th before returning to McNaughton on June 17th to host defending champions Oakville Blue Devils.
