Woodbridge Advance In L1OM Cup With Commanding 4-1 Win Over Ottawa South 05/29/2018, 10:30am EDT By Kacian Whyte Reigning League1 Cup Champions Woodbridge Strikers advance to the next round of League1 Cup after a 4-1 victory over Ottawa South United. Goals scored by Woodbridge’s Emmanuel Isaac (3’) and Ali El Zeir (5’) set the tempo for the first half as Ottawa struggled to find their rhythm. Despite numerous attempts to push the ball forward, Ottawa was held at half failing to convert any efforts into goal scoring opportunities. Ottawa goalkeeper Cameron Cappelli had his hands full during the first half as the Strikers made several attempts on goal. Despite dominating possession and taking a quick 2-0 lead, Woodbridge was unsuccessful on set-pieces, with three free-kicks sailing over the wall and wide of the net. The Strikers would extend their lead, thanks to substitute Tyrell Rayne (50') who came in to replace Aziah Reid. Rayne received a well placed through ball and neatly tucked the ball behind the Cappelli. In the 67th minute, Rayne grabbed his second of the match and added to his sides' lead, finishing off a well placed free-kick. Ottawa's Myles Cornwall (81') was able to get his side back into the match after being brought down while on a fast break down the right wing, earning himself a penalty kick. The away side would make some strides late in the game to create a comeback but were denied any more opportunities on goal, thanks to strong play from Woodbridge keeper Robert Stillo. With the win, the Woodbridge Strikers are set for a rematch of last years League1 Cup final against Vaughan Azzurri.
