Halftime Entertainment: It is announced there will be a draw from a team sponser Coventy North Jaguar Land Rover that
there'd be a draw for a vehicle that looked like an SUV. I did see the vehicle at the beginning of the game but then
forgot and pictured a cross between something James Bond would drive (OK he drove an Astin Martin?) and a land rover (like
you'd use on a safari). It still seems like a strange merger of car manufacturers. Also strange is it wasn't announced
as a raffle but just a ballot draw and it would be drawn before the women's game later in the afternoon. There was no announcement
that it was a 'lease' on the vehicle. I'll have to ask the next time I'm up here.

Final Score:...Woodbridge Strikers.....4......Ottawa South United Force.......1........

*I asked Tyrell Rayne after the game about who sent him the pass on his second goal. He pointed to #4 who was wearing
the captain's armband. The #4 was a tape job so I expect he had to replace what he was wearing for blood on the #10 jersey.
That would be Christian Cavallini.

Attendance was about 50 on this hot and humid day. Ball kids today were from
the Woodbridge OPDL U-13 team. The car sponsor gives out MVP trophies to one player on each team. Joshua Paredes-Procter wins for Woodbridge and Ali Jabara is chosed for OSU. Any suspence for this game was over quickly as Emmanuel Issac and Ali El Zeir scored at 2 minutes and 5 minutes for Woodbridge. Halftime sub Tyrell Rayne scored at 50 and 67 minutes to increase their lead and Myles Cornwall got one back at 80 minutes on a Penalty kick. The way Strikers play over the seasons is they are well known for a rock steady defence which limited OSU to almost no shots on goal and little time of possession. I counted the first time an OSU player even got into the box as 29 minutes. The game had a 1:45pm start which meant it was played in the hottest part of the day. Referee Filip Dujic ensured that there was a water break in each half. I asked an OSU official after the game if they'd arrived in Toronto last night. Nope they left early this morning and it was about a five hour drive. I said the only thing worse then the long drive here will be the five hour drive back after today's result! This league needs a hotel sponsor. OSU had six starters and two on their bench born in the year 2000. Back to high school tomorrow? Oldest player was born in 1996. I spoke to Strikers long time coach Peter Pinizzotto about the Cup draw. The draw was made like a tennis draw or NCAA basketball bracket draw rather than European one-round-at-a-time draws so the route to the final is known. Strikers next opponent is Vaughan Azzurri in the quarterfinal. The 2016 and 2017 finals pitted Strikers vs Azzurri with each team winning once (Woodbridge last year). 2015 had Woodbridge win and the inaugral season of 2014 had Azzurri win (both teams beat Sigma FC). There have been changes for the Strikers this year in players they have on their roster with a few players shuffling to other teams and defensive stalwart Bruce Cullen coming over from Durham United who didn't field a team this year. By the gates was long time midfielder Oscar Cordon (ex TFC Academy and MLS player) who I hadn't noticed on any L1O roster. I asked him about what he's doing this year and he answered that he's wairing for a call-up with the Strikers. I wished him good luck. Azzurri hammered North Mississauga 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. Hmm there must be no seeding as this would be like having the Williams sisters meeting in the first round of some tennis tournament. The winner of the L1O Cup just wins a trophy. It is League play and playoffs that decide who advances to the Canadian Championship/Voyageurs Cup next season.
