Unionville-Milliken S.C came out victorious after a hard-fought 3-1 win over Vaughan Azzurri,
thanks to second-half goals by Halburto Harris (61') and Tre Crosby (69').

Unionville created good opportunities to score in the first ten minutes, with Hassan Abdulmumini's
first attempt across goal drifting just wide; and a second effort being saved by Colm Vance
from close range.

The hosts got their breakthrough from a corner kick in the 11th minute, with Abdulmumini heading
home at the near post.

Vaughan looked for an immediate response and nearly equalized eight minutes later, but UMSC defender
Michael Fayehun reacted quickly to clear the ball out of an otherwise empty net.

The Azzurri had their best opportunity of the half through Anthony Osorio in the 30th minute,
but he could not get his volley on target. However, Osorio would make amends for this miss
minutes later; an inch-perfect diagonal ball delivered from the left wing was met by his teammate
Jarek Whiteman (39') and the forward calmly chipped the ball past the Unionville keeper
Emanuelle Ameltonis.

Unionville regained the lead after half-time with a goal that looked like a carbon copy of their
opener; this time Halburto Harris was first to the corner kick and headed the hosts back in front
in the 61st minute.

UMSC did not take their foot off the gas and scored again just eight minutes later through
Tre Crosby (69'), with the player placing the ball neatly in the bottom right corner.

Vaughan would make four changes heading into the final fifteen minutes and created a few good
opportunities to get back into the match. Striker Tomasz Sklublak came closest to scoring for
the visitors, but his header from a long throw went just off target.

Unionville's Fayehun was sent off in the final minute of normal time for a last-ditch tackle
on the edge of the box, but the ensuing free kick was saved comfortably by keeper Ameltonis
and the hosts would go on to retain their 3-1 lead at the final whistle.

The result means Unionville-Milliken (2-2-0) will go level on points with
Vaughan Azzurri (2-2-0), but with a slight edge on goal difference.

The Markham-based team travels to LAmoreaux #1 on May 26 (8:30 p.m.) to take
on Master's Futbol in Men's League1 Cup action.

Vaughan Azzurri will begin their 2018 Men's League1 Cup campaign when they host
North Mississauga S.C on May 26 (3:00 p.m.).
