Skublak Brace The Difference As Vaughan Beats Aurora 2-1 05/14/2018, 4:00pm EDT By Mahdi Ghaffaribarzi Vaughan Azzurri missed a penalty in the first half, played almost a full half with ten men and fell behind in the 50th minute, but finally won 2-1 away to Aurora thanks to Tomasz Skublak's brace (55', 83'). Vaughan started the match off in a 4-4-2 formation against Aurora's 4-1-4-1. The first half was dominated by Vaughan, during which time they had five clear goal-scoring chances - all denied by Aurora's keeper Collins; his best effort was in the 43rd minute when he saved Skublak's penalty. On the other hand, Aurora managed no shot on target in this half. Just three minutes after the second half kick-off, Vaughan were down to ten men as Phillips got his second yellow. The Azzurri quickly paid the price, as Aurora's Byers (50') found the net from inside the box shortly thereafter. With one man less, Vaughan modified their attacking plans somewhat, switching their formation from 4-3-2 to 3-4-2 and vice-versa for the rest of the second half. The pressure paid off and Sklublak beat Aurora's keeper Collins for his first of the match with a low finish from inside the box. Vaughan weren't happy with the result and continued trying to get all three points despite Aurora's numeric advantage. Ultimately, with only seven minutes left to play, Sklublak again scored in a very similar situation to his first one and gave his team their second win of the season. Since there were so many fouls, especially in the second half, eight players (four of each side) saw yellow with Vaughan's Phillips receiving red. Aurora FC will face Oakville Blue Devils at Stewart Burnett Park on Sunday, May 20 (7 p.m). Vaughan Azzurri's next match is against Unionville Milliken S.C. on Saturday, May 19 (8 p.m) at Bill Crothers Turf Centre.
