April 30, 2018 League 1 Ontario--Match Recap: Pro Stars FC vs Ottawa South United (from League 1 Ontario website)
Massoud, Conte And Tuck Guarantee OSU A 3-0 Away Win Over Pro Stars 04/30/2018, 7:30pm EDT By Anthony Gallo Ottawa South United were able to start their 2018 League1 Ontario campaign with a 3-0 away victory over Pro Stars FC. With heavy winds in the forecast for play at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, both sides had to prepare for a game that would likely see more ground passes than long balls. The visiting Ottawa South side were dealt an early blow in the 12th minute, when defender Cedrick Gravel went down after colliding with a Pro Stars player. After the stoppage in play, Pro Stars looked to apply as much pressure as possible with their opponents forced to move players around. Pro Stars' best chance came in the 35th minute, when a cross from Ezekiel Uadiale swung into the box and was headed towards goal by striker Ethan Millington-Clarke. Ottawa South keeper Jarred St.Thomas was forced to act quickly and make a fingertip save to deny Millington-Clarke, which then resulted in him making a rebound save to force a corner. With play being shifted around for the majority of the first half, it was Ottawa South that got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Massoud (45'). The second half had Ottawa South in control for the first ten minutes of play, before Pro Stars began to push forward and challenge St.Thomas. However a penalty kick goal from OSU's Dario Conte (78') gave his side the insurance goal they were looking for, and Aidan Tuck (90+4') slotted a shot just before the final whistle, giving Ottawa South all three points in their first match of the season. Ottawa South had many players step up in this match to give their side their first win of 2018, but keeper St.Thomas deserves praise for making eight saves to earn his first clean sheet in League1 Ontario. Pro Stars will look to Matchweek Two to get their first win of 2018 when they take on North Mississauga SC on May 5 (8 p.m.) at Hershey Centre 2. Up next for Ottawa South will be a home match at Quinns Point on May 5 (3:30 p.m.) against 2017 L1 Cup winners Woodbridge Strikers.
