September 19, 2017 League 1 Ontario--Match Recap: Woodbridge Strikers vs Toronto Skillz (from League 1 Ontario)
Match Recap: Woodbridge Strikers 4 - 1 Toronto Skillz 09/19/2017, 12:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Woodbridge Strikers remained joint-first in the men's east division after a 4-1 win over Toronto Skillz. Kyle Watson (9') opened the scoring for the Strikers with an early set-piece, but it was the introduction of Marco Nunes (47') that changed the game for the home side. Nunes scored just after the half-time break and played a role in following goals by Isaiah Johnson (62') and Luca Baldassare (78'). "Marco did a good job coming in," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "I think he was in on all the goals. It was good because a couple of those goalscorers are very young players and it was good for them, they seem to blend well with the group." "This is Marco's second game and he scored in both games," he added. "He is a very dangerous striker and can shoot left and right. He is an important striker for us." Alejandro Rivas (75') got the lone goal for Toronto Skillz, which head coach Leslie "Tiger" Fiztpatrick felt was just reward for some strong play from his side. "If you look at the goals, three of them were our mistakes," he said. "That is why the teams are in the positions they are in. We make mistakes and they punish us, and they make mistakes and we don't punish them." "We tried to neutralize their fast and dangerous players, and I thought we did that, but it was just mistakes that we made that provided the breakthroughs for Woodbridge." "However, for us it was a wonderful strike by Ali, happy for him." Woodbridge Strikers will next play Aurora FC on September 24 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge. Toronto Skillz will next play Durham United FA on September 22 at Kinsmen Park, Pickering.
