August 28, 2017 League 1 Ontario--Match Recap: FC London vs TFC III (from League 1 Ontario)
Match Recap: FC London 3 - 1 TFC III 08/28/2017, 10:30pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Cyrus Rollocks (4') put Toronto FC III on the board early in London on Matchweek 18, but it was the experience of London's Elvir Gigolaj (27', 51') and Randy Ribeiro (34') that ultimately led the charge for a united FC London side that took a 3-1 result. "I think we were compact," said FC London head coach, Dom Kosic, "and the guys recognized in the last game that they played good against Vaughan but we lost." "I think today they realized that the players of Toronto FC III were not so strong physically, as players of Vaughan for example, and so I think our compactness and team spirit were the keys to our success." "Also I think the team as a unit was the best part," he added. "We were compact most of the game and even when we lost possession, when they out-played us, we always had another player, and another player [to defend]. I think these young players, along with Elvir [Gigolaj] and Randy [Ribeiro] did a wonderful job." Toronto FC III head coach Danny Dichio was unhappy with a sluggish start by his side, and an uncharacteristically leaky defence by a team that is tied for fourth in the league on goals against. "Today I really thought we showed our immaturity at times," he said. "I think it came down to how we approached the first half. I wasn't happy at all with the commitment, the organization, the overall play by us and I let them know at half-time that it wasn't good enough." "It was disappointing because we have been playing particularly well lately, even though we do have a younger group. We know we have a younger group but I thought London defended really well today at times, they were more committed than us, I thought they wanted the game more than us, and that's before we even start talking technically and tactically about things." "If you don't show that commitment and enthusiasm for the game than you are going to be behind the eight ball. That was our problem." FC London will next play Sigma FC on September 8 at German Canadian Club, London. Toronto FC III will next play Toronto Skillz on September 2 at Kia Training Ground, Toronto.
