Match Recap: Woodbridge Strikers 4 - 1 Masters FA Saints

Dylan Carriero (29', 34') smashed in a brace for Woodbridge Strikers, while Marco Nunes (54') 
and Christian Cavallini (61') added the insurance in a 4-1 win over Masters FA Saints that keeps the Strikers 
top of the men's east division.  

"We had about ten days off since our last game against Sigma, and it was good to see the team scoring goals, 
although we missed a few more opportunities tonight," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. 

"We had a new player playing tonight and it was good to be able to see him play, because we have been waiting 
for him to be available for the last two or three weeks," he added. 

"Marco Nunes came in and did very well, springing a goal and could have had one or two more. I'm very happy 
with the team. Masters is not a very easy team to play against, they are a much improved team. It was good 
that we scored early and we could settle down." 

"We made a few changes but still the team played very well in the second half and we scored a couple 
more goals."

Jose De Sousa (68') scored a single for Masters on a night when owner Junior Groves found a number 
of bright points in spite of the result. 

"I'm very, very pleased," he said. "We did everything to win the game. We played very well, but were 
despondent with the penalty kick given to Woodbridge."

"I thought Woodbridge played well but I think we actually imposed our will upon the game. When the penalty 
went in, our heads dropped and Woodbridge took advantage and scored a second goal. We'll put it together 
for Vaughan on Saturday." 

"We put Josh [Jarmillio] on the field in the second half and I thought he opened up the field with his 
passing and vision. At centre-back I thought Marcus [Malcolm] did very well, and the combination 
of Jose [De Sousa] and Joey [Melo] was lethal as always. We were very pleased with a lot of things 
that we saw today."

With the win, Woodbridge remains a scant two points ahead of Vaughan Azzurri at the top of the men's 
east division table, with a game in hand. 

"We play North Toronto and every game we have to play to win because I believe Vaughan is right behind us," 
said Pinizzotto.

"We need to keep winning, we cannot afford to lose any points." 

Woodbridge Strikers will next play North Toronto Nitros on August 27 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge. 

Masters FA Saints will next play Vaughan Azzurri on August 26 at L'Amoreaux, Scarborough.
