August 21, 2017 League 1 Ontario--Match Recap: Oakville Blue Devils vs Windsor TFC Stars (from League 1 Ontario)
Match Recap: Oakville Blue Devils 11 - 0 Windsor TFC Stars 08/21/2017, 5:45pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff A massively one-sided 11-0 result for Oakville Blue Devils over visitors Windsor TFC Stars put them three points clear at the top of the west division table and in control of their destiny with only six matches to go in the 2017 season. Khody Ellis (10', 36', 37', 46') led the attacking charge with a four goal haul, while Mathew Santos (13', 49', 73) bagged a hat-trick that moved him into third in the golden boot race with 12 on the season. Anthony Novak (2'), Braden Culver (67') and Hitesh Joshi (82') added singles and keeper Matt George kept the sheet clean for the Blue Devils on a day when the former League1 champions had one thing on their minds. "We had a specific goal in mind and that was getting three points, get clear at the top, and get our job done," said Oakville Blue Devils head coach, Duncan Wilde. "We didn't do it very well last week and we put ourselves in a bind. We're happy this week because we got off to a really good start, good energy, and once we got our noses in front there was no looking back." "The job for us is to keep our focus on game by game," he added. "If we have that mentality then it is ours to lose. We've mathematically got the points, we've got six games left and if we win them we will win the division. We're not trying to make it too complicated, still some big games to go for both us and Sigma. I think it has become a two-horse race and it's going to be an exciting climax." In fifth position in the west division but 23 points back of their opponent on the day, Windsor TFC Stars brought a young team on the road to get some crucial minutes under their belts. "Oakville was outstanding today and they were on their game," said Windsor TFC owner, Vancho Cirovski. "They pressed and they kept pressing, and that is the way it should be." "But there are times when it is going to end up like this and like Duncan [Wilde] said, "congratulations on bringing the kids up here," he added. "That is what it is all about. One year they are going to feel this, and the next year it will be a different story. It's a development program, it's a development league, and we have to give kids exposure. We have to compete better though, nobody wants to watch this kind of result, but it's a good lesson. Our kids learned a good lesson today." "We were just out-matched from a competence, capability, size, stamina, physicality perspective because we are playing sixteen and seventeen year olds in our team, frankly." Oakville Blue Devils will next play North Mississauga SC on August 30 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga. Windsor TFC Stars will next play North Mississauga SC on August 26 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
