Jarek Whiteman (20', 53') took home a brace while Colm Vance bagged the clean sheet
in a 2-0 home win for Vaughan Azzurri over Windsor TFC Stars.

"On the defensive side of the ball we made sure to do our job," said Vaughan head coach,
Carmine Isacco. "We kept a clean sheet and that was important."

"Their keeper Kyle [Vizarakis] kept them in the game, he made some good saves
and is a good keeper. They have some good players going forward and our keeper made
a fantastic save just to keep us up too. Those situations are the mark of a good group,
one that knows each other and is tough to break down."

"We knew it wouldn't be a blowout," he added. "We knew it would be a tough game and
we did what we needed to do to control the tempo and won the game."

With a long road trip on either side of the early afternoon fixture, and some difficult
weather conditions that led to an extended half-time break, Windsor was facing
an uphill battle to be ready for the match against the defending League1
Ontario champions.

"All you can do is what we did during half-time today, which was almost half an hour
with the extended break," said Windsor head coach, Zibby Piatkiewicz.

"You talk about the game a little bit and things you can fix on the field. We made
some changes tactically and moved some players around too to try and create more
opportunities in front of the net. At the beginning it worked and then one bad bounce
again and we ended up on the losing side."

"However, my guys gave me one hundred per cent after long travel and some difficult
weather," he added.

Vaughan's Isacco had high praise for this goalscorer Whiteman, and spoke to the lack
of domestic or North American professional opportunities that have existed for this
calibre of player.

"He is one of those players that hasn't had an opportunity to fail, whether
it is from the USL or other pro leagues," he said.

"You appreciate him when you have him on your team, not only the attacking side
of it but the defensive aspect as well. He is very responsible regarding his
defensive duties."

"He is tactically and positionally aware of what is going on in a game right away.
That is one of the kids that needs an opportunity to get to the next level but has
never had an opportunity."

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Sigma FC on July 2 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Windsor TFC Stars will next play Masters FA Saints on June 30
at University of Windsor, Windsor.
