May 8, 2017 League 1 Ontario Match Recap: Pro Stars FC vs North Mississauga (from League 1 Ontario website)
Match Recap: Pro Stars FC 1 - 3 North Mississauga 05/07/2017, 1:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Pro Stars FC got in their 2017 home opener on Friday night at Terry Fox Stadium, Brampton, but did not get the result they would have been hoping for after a 3-1 loss to North Mississauga Panthers. North Miss' Nathaniel Marksman (36', 65') tucked away a brace on either side of half-time, while Lee Victor Massunda (71') put the result out of reach inside the final half hour. Pro Stars FC had appeared to start out the brighter of the two sides, with Kibwe Dyer (4') potting a quick goal to give the home team some early confidence, but North Miss gradually began to take control. "I think the win was for us in the first half and we didn't take advantage of it as much as they did in the second half," said Pro Stars coach Stiven Mikhail. "That’s why it was a drastic change. We knew that going into the second. But they took advantage which was shoot the ball on net, at distance even, and they knew the wind was going to carry and the ball was going to move faster." Mikhail pointed to the team posting some good stats in the first half, and the heavy pitch and dreadful wind and rain as pros and cons in the team's opener. "In the first half we did statistically better than them, so we came in to the break with optimism," he said. "The second half our legs got heavy and the weather was a big factor as well. It really played against us. We didn't know how bad it was until we started in the second." After a tough road loss last week in Windsor, North Miss head coach Sam Medeiros was delighted with how his team progressed in the match following a slow start. "You can say it was the prep talk!" he said. "But no, we are all humans and everyday isn't a good day at the office." "We started off slow and we woke up. Some people get ready for the game at the game. So we woke up a little bit late but all credit to Pro Stars. We definitely came out in the second half with a little bit more enthusiasm." Medeiros explained that his Panthers side is still assembling, with some key players yet to be introduced into the fold. "We are still missing about four or five players," he said. "This is a brand new team as we changed about 80 per cent of the team." "What you’re seeing is a lot of 16, 17,18,19 year old players. So we are doing the right thing. You have to wait for the cake to cook or bake to see how well it tastes later on. So I think we are doing the right thing." Pro Stars FC will next play Sigma FC on Friday May 12 at Terry Fox Stadium, Brampton. North Mississauga Panthers will next play FC London on Friday May 12 at German Canadian Club, London.
