Match Recap: Windsor TFC 2 - 1 North Mississauga Panthers 04/30/2017, 9:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Windsor TFC opened L1O Kickoff 2017 with a 2-1 win over visitors North Mississauga Panthers at University Of Windsor on Friday night courtesy of a Celso Carapau (37' 43' brace. Windsor head coach Zibby Piatkiewcz felt his team took some time to get going, but grew into the match. "I think we started slow and for the first half an hour the team from Mississauga had much more possession than we did," he said. "As we progressed in the game, things opened up a little bit. My guys figured things out and they moved the ball much better. It happened that they scored first so that was a wake-up call. After that I think we played much better, and guys started moving the ball much better too." The Panthers Andi Modina (29') got the visitors off to a great start, but North Miss couldn't hang on against a determined and experienced Windsor side. "I've never coached against Windsor and I thought they were very structured, disciplined and organized," said North Miss coach, Sam Medeiros. "I know of the coach and I think he's done a great job with the team. From our side, this is a whole new team from last year's North Miss entry. I'm very very proud of them and very very impressed with their organization and discipline." Windsor's manager singled out one player for special mention, while Medeiros selected a handful. "Steve Ademolu was pretty much the key today," said Piatkiewcz. "For his age to move that well, it was just nice to see that he can still play this game at that level." "I was trying to make substitutions but it was a hard thing to do as they were playing very well," said Medeiros. "There were some players that stood out, like Laith Adi in the middle, Andi [Modina] centrally, and fullbacks Sundin [Esperance] and Anton [Buretic] played very well even though Anton went in for the second half. Overall they contributed a lot." Both coaches had some targets in mind for the training pitch ahead of their next matches. "What we have to work on is possession - keep the possession a little bit longer, get in the rhythm of having the ball, and build it as we go forward," said Piatkiewicz. "We have a lot of guys from university that have exams and stuff like that, and we have a lot of kids that want to play, so we're just going to keep building this as we go forward from here." "The hardest part about coaching is pre-season and early season, leading up to the first game, because you can work on so many things but you don't know if you are doing them wrong or right," said Medeiros. "The easy thing about coaching is that when you get into the season you are just working off what you did in previous games, was it good, was it bad and you just build on that." Windsor TFC will next play Oakville Blue Devils on Sunday May 7 at University of Windsor Stadium North Mississauga Panthers will next play Pro Stars FC on Friday May 5 at Terry Fox Stadium, Brampton.
