Lynx Rock Rhinos
Toronto picks up second straight win over Rochester.

by Mark Pallo

The Rochester Rhinos home opener at Frontier Field, Memorial Day was a day that sent the Toronto Lynx into first place and 12,135 fans home disappointed.

The Rhinos (4-2) lost by the same score a week ago at Varsity Stadium and have now dropped into second place behind Toronto (5-2).

The game which was similar to last Mondays game saw the Rhinos strike early. Lenin Steenkamp scored just 4:30 into the game and the crowd erupted as he blasted a shot past keeper Pat Onstad with the assist from Jimmy Glenn.

Toronto would then score three straight. At 27:05 Caporella tied the score by sneaking behind the short defender Leon Minott. Lei Gong connected at the 50:00 to give Toronto the lead 2-1. Disaster came at 54:30 as Rene Rivas tried to play a ball back to keeper Andracki which he couldn't touch. Andracki tried to head the ball down which took a high bounce, and the rebound came to Darren Tilley. Andracki stopped Tilley's shot but Caporella pounded away the rebound for his second of the game. The crowd was stunned as Toronto took the lead 3-1.

Rochester came back at 78:20 and Henry Gutierrez brought the Rhinos within one but that was as close as they came. Hats off to the Lynx who played extremely well and worked their asses off for 90 minutes. There seems to be some concern regarding the Rhinos, and that they may have brought in too much talent. The chemistry is not quite their yet, and with new players just arriving from indoor, Coach Ercoli will have some sorting out to do. Mark Spacone and friends added to the atmosphere in the bleachers as well.
