Lynx Smother Wildfire Toronto gets their first A-League victory in Worcester By Paul Hendren |
|
After a less than auspicious start to the season the fledgling Toronto Lynx captured their first victory of the young season by scoring a 3 - 1 win over their North East Division rivals Worcester Wildfire in front of 2,356 spectators at Worcester's Foley Stadium. Toronto grabbed the lead thirteen minutes into time when Canadian Under 20 stand out Dwayne De Rosario converted a Paul Stalteri set up. Prior to the game Lynx head coach Peter Pinizzotto pledged a more attacking formation by moving English forward Darren Tilley up front and the move paid off as Tilley set up Elvis Thomas for the second goal of the game in the twenty ninth minute. Worcester was able to cut the lead in half at the 44th minute when forward Paul Keegan put the hosts on the score sheet. Toronto regained their two goal cushion when defender Martin Dugas notched his first of the season just prior to half time. By outshooting their hosts 16 - 3 the visiting Lynx dominated the game from start to finish and forced Wildfire goalkeeper Eddie Pigford to make several difficult saves. Both teams now have a record of 1 - 2 with Toronto continuing their road trip in Richmond next Friday. The Lynx open their home schedule on Monday May 19 when they take on their Western New York neighbours the Rochester Raging Rhinos at fabled Varsity Stadium. |
