This was the second time in four days these teams met. This contest was a Cup game and Glen Shields have clinched a spot. It's likely North York will go through as well as they have two games to go while Toronto Croatia has played their six games. North York needs three points to pass them.
Attendance was between 250 to 300. This was Canada Day and there had been a whole day of activities like swap sales and barbecues. Many of the kids in attendance had replica Glen Shields jerseys just like they probably played in earlier in the day.
The field at Dufferin District has a noticeable slope to the NorthEast end as the low side. There is no scoreboard. The field is surrounded by an 8 foot chain link fence with double height just behind the nets. The aluminum bleachers are on the East side so that made squinting necessary for this evening game as the sun set. Capacity in the bleachers is 400 reads a posting at the entrance. There's no backing (just like Esther Shiner Stadium) so when I dropped the top from my water bottle, it rolled and fell to the ground below. Player benches are on the west side and any passerby can watch from Dufferin Street through the fencing. They could also fetch the balls booted over the fence into oncoming traffic.
The referee did not give out any red or yellow cards this game. An Astros player did a cartwheel when challenged and yelled 'How about a card ref?!' Arrowsmith yells back "I'll show YOU a card!" motioning for his pocket and that was enough to get the player back on his feet. There was some heckler or parent in the crowd who yelled "Just say 'Yes sir'", possible advice for any player for the ref's decisions.
