Game starts at 7:03pm after Aurora Mayor Tim Jones and League Commissioner Mike DiBiase make opening comments. Evening got very cold as it got dark and the game wore on.
1st Half: York defend East goal and have to run into the sun until it set. Wind is from the North.
The first 20 minutes of the game I have no individual comments as I was tracking down the lineups.
4 min...York GOAL...Glasgow split defense and scored....Darn, I miss the first goal ever scored in this league as I'm behind the bleechers writing down the lineups.
21 min...Eagles Yellow card...Komlodi for obstruction on edge of the box.
21 min...York freekick off Eagles wall, hits defenders head on left side of wall, ball deflects just wide right of post.
24 min...Eagles Yellow card...Komlodi gets his second card for knocking down player near edge of box. Eagles defense had looked shakey but the ejection really underlined that point.
24 min...York Gheinson rolls freekick from 20 yards directly to goalie.
36 min...York GOAL...Saenz curls 20 yard freekick around wall into bottom left corner of net. The freekick was given because Eagles goalie had to stop backpass with his hands(?).
39 min...York GOAL...Glasgow blasts 20 yard shot from right of net to lower left corner.
41 min...Eagles GOAL...Kiaietar heads in from right goalpost as Szilagy crosses from left line.
43 min...York Yellow card...Baker for tripping Eagles Duque at midfield.
2nd Half:..(starts at 8:02pm)
Halftime sub:...York Gouveia replaces Saenz.
56 min...York Baker gets away 15 yard blast caught by goalie.
60 min...Eagle goalie catches cross from Sciarra along left line.
64 min...York Yellow card...Gheinson near midfield.
80 min...York Pady blasts from 15 yards that goalie dives and pushes ball wide right.
81 min...Eagle goalie dives forward to smother ball.
?? min...York Roczavez replaces Gheinson (I finally notice).
83 min...Eagles Yellow card...Prunner (when did he come on?) for pulling down player.
83 min...York Glasgow freekick from 25 yards goes over net and bounces over fence into the woods.
85 min...York Dadson chips over net from left side.
88 min...York Yellow card...Glasgow for argueing with referee.
90 min...York Sciarra freekick from 25 yards curls and hits outside of right post.
Final Score:......York Region Strikers...........3.........Mississauga Eagles............1.....
Attendance was about 300. The wooden stands were supplied by the Town of Richmond Hill. There were free hotdogs and coffee and donuts supplied by CoffeeTime Donuts. (Thanks as I had no supper racing up from downtown Toronto after the Lynx game). I will be covering the North York Astros games as they start 30 minutes later and are much closer to where I live.
At Highland Park there is really no stopping anyone from lining up outside the north fence and watching for free but only a handful did that. The East side is a forest, the West side is a parking lot but tickets are collected before anyone gets there. North side is the clubhouse and seating. There is no scoreboard at the stadium.
Thanks to Jack to supplying me with the rosters and have a good time in France!
