Attendance was not announced but was revealed on the league's website as 777. That is an interesting number as it is rumoured to be the name of one of the interested parties for buying the team 'The 777 Group'. [Late edit...The league changed their figure to 890 so I don't know if the first figure was a prank]. This was definitely the smallest crowd of the season. A mild sunny afternoon on a Saturday! Should there have been more? Well the game was rescheduled on less than two weeks notice by the league broadcaster One Soccer as they wanted to show the Women's World Cup qualifier between Canada and Jamaica on Friday night in Kingston Jamaica. Canada won that game 2-0 for a great head start for Tuesday's home game at BMO Field in Toronto. The leader of the York supporter's group had his wedding today and even their endzone stand was down about 50% as maybe they were all at the wedding or had work commitments. York United is now owned by the league so they'd be pushovers to having their game moved. This is York's third home loss in a row in the midst of a four game home stand. They are the best in the league for their road record. Sergio Camargo earned the shutout for Cavalry without having much to do although he had four shots against the same number as York head in the game. Referee Scott Bowman gave out six Yellow cards in the game, the first three to York including one to an assistant coach for complaining after the Cavalry goal then the other three later in the game to Cavalry players. The game was pretty cleanly played with the only danger a collision in the first minute of the second half when York Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare and Cav's Mael Henry collided in front of the York player's bench and both needed trainers although eventually they were both were able to continue. Henry got a Yellow card for his part in the play. York coach Martin Nash said after the game he was pleased the team only allowed Cavalry one shot inside the 18 yard box (that was on the goal). Cavalry coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr said after the game that when he saw after 60 minutes his team didn't look like it would score a second goal, he tightened up their defence to grind out the win. York's U-21 minutes are now manageable. They earned 90 minutes for young goalie Eleias Himaras, with starter Kadin Martin-Pereux playing in midfield for 78 minutes and not looking out of place. Midfielder Carson Buschman-Dormand as their one U-21 on the bench came in at 78 minutes. Next week looks even better as U-21 Noah Abatneh should be back from suspension which will give them even more choices. The loss drops York's record to 9 wins, 12 losses, 5 ties for 32 points and they stay in sixth place. Atletico Ottawa holds on to fifth and is the only team York could catch for the last playoff spot. Atletico plays tomorrow and with an expected win at home against Valour FC who are out of the playoffs after losing at home on Wednesday and should be tired. Ottawa could pull four points ahead of York with two games to go for each team. Atletico will be here next Sunday for York's final home game and York would have to win that game just to be back at one point behind and then have to win out in Vancouver and hope Atletico loses to Forge the next afternoon in Hamilton. Things for York look bleak. Cavalry's record improves to 14 wins, 5 losses, 7 ties for 49 points. That keeps them in first place and they could clinch the title later today if Forge beat Pacific. First place not only gives a team a home field advantage in the playoffs and a 'second chance' if they lose their semi-final match (something like Australian Rules Football) but they would win hardward for winning the league and one of two places for CPL teams in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup for the best club team in the region.Rocket Robin
