PREVIEW: 'WE NEED A REACTION', DECLARES NASH AS NINE STRIPES LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK

A win at home to Pacific FC will move the team into second place in the table.

Head Coach Martin Nash expects his York United players to shrug off last weekend’s heavy defeat and put on a show against league leaders Pacific FC this evening.

The Nine Stripes were pummelled 4-0 by Forge FC at York Lions Stadium and will be hoping to bounce back at the same venue.

"We need a reaction. We went through the post mortem, it wasn’t pretty after the game and now we need a reaction from the guys," The Gaffer disclosed during his pre-game talk.

"There's gonna be some changes in the team obviously after the performance like that and it's on guys now to win a spot. Spots are up for grabs so guys have got to give everything they have while they're on the pitch and prove they need to be in the starting lineup."

York United have already lost their previous two matches- both on the road - against Pacific this season. So, this assignment should be all about revenge.

Martin Nash's squad will not include Mo Babouli or Austin Ricci with the pair dealing with suspensions arising from that Forge defeat.

"We've got to concentrate on what we did well in those two previous games against them but also be aware that they are very dangerous on the counter attack. They’ve got some exciting talent going forward. They've got a solid back four and it's been there now for a long time. I think that's why they are where they are. They're a very good team defensively and they can hurt you in many ways: in transition, through set pieces, they’ve got a number of ways to score. So we've got to be aware of all their strengths but see if we can use ours to exploit their weaknesses."

York United have managed just one win in their last five matches and are fast dropping points. Another reverse result will hurt the club’s chances of securing a post-season slot.

Nash knows what has contributed to the team’s inconsistent performances.

"I think a lot of it comes down to mindset and mentality, especially for our group. When we're mentally engaged, we're at it, we're on the front foot, we're a good team and a tough team to play against," he said.

"When we're not on the front foot and allow teams to come on to us then we can struggle. So we've got to be aware of who we are when we're at our best. I think what's happened with our team is we're not always on our front foot and if we're not then we could struggle. So we know we're facing a team that's on their third game this week. We've got to be on our front foot. We got to be in their face and be the aggressor."
