NASH: TIME TO REPLICATE SUPERB HALIFAX PERFORMANCE BACK AT HOME THIS WEEKEND

York United FC's Head Coach was impressed by last weekend's 3-0 win in Halifax but is asking his players to repeat the trick.

Martin Nash says the ruthless display by his York United side against Halifax Wanderers on Saturday came as no surprise but admits the biggest headache now will be to replicate that performance in their next assignment.

It was a dominant display at Wanderers Grounds and matched by the 3-0 win - their second league victory of the campaign.

A huge relief and reward for the team so all the hard work and continuous push despite recent poor results.

"It [the win] moves us up the table a little bit which is good," Nash said in his post-game press conference.

"I think a lot of the draws have kept us kind in the running while we've had this spell here. So, hopefully scoring some goals gives us a bit of positivity coming in as well because we hadn't been scoring goals. I knew it was coming but it was great to happen all at once. Now we've just got to go beyond this performance. You can't just have one good performance and then relax."

After two back-to-back defeats, The Nine Stripes needed to pull themselves out of the mire.

And they did that in swashbuckling form.

Nash added: "We wanted to come out and get in their face right away. We felt if we pressed well and cut off passing lanes and got guys' heads down that we could turn the ball over. And we did that a number of times in the first half and had some good chances. To be fair, we scored two quality strikes from outside the box, which you don't always expect."

"But it was a quality first half and then at halftime I challenged them to bring the same energy and effort and to control the game. I think that's a big part of it and to score right at the start of the second half was big and I thought we held firm."

"There were a few moments when they are three-nil down and throw caution to the wind but I thought we held strong and even at that moment we were able to dictate the tempo with some of our passing. I thought it was an all-round performance and something that we need to push on from as a group now."

The performance and outcome of the match made it possible for Nash to hand teenager Noah Abatneh his Canadian Premier League debut. The 18-year-old replaced Max Ferrari on 83 minutes.

York United are back at York Lions Stadium to face Calvary on Sunday.
