ANALYSIS: 'A COMPLETE TEAM PERFORMANCE', FERRARI'S ENGINE AND LOTS OF GOALS

It was a thoroughly impressive 3-0 away win over Halifax Wanderers last weekend.

THE DETAILS
HOME IS HALIFAX

It looks like York United have mastered the art of playing at Wanderers Grounds.

Ahead of Saturday’s matinee, Halifax Wanderers had only won one of their last 5 home games against York. The last outing between the two sides ended in a huge 4-2 win for The Nine Stripes and once again Martin Nash’s boys came out flying and bossed the game from start to finish. They were fully in control of the ball, dictated the tempo and never lost control of the game. And deservedly, shot into a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark. Three goals from four shots on target is an impressive return.

Nash was pleased with the response he got from his players after last week’s mauling at Pacific.

He said: "I think it was a very good response. They knew they needed it. We knew they needed it. We're all in this together. We came together as a group and decided what it's going to take and the guys put in everything they have. It was a complete team performance as far as I'm concerned."

"Can we get better? Yeah. But I think this is the type of performance that we if can put in weekly will get us a lot of wins."

MAX FERRARI’S DOGFIGHT
The adjustments, tactical tweaks continued and that saw Max Ferrari operate as right-back [his unnatural position]. His main task was to stop Massimo Ferrin - on two goals this season - from causing havoc on the left side. Ferrari produced impressive game stats. He was the game's most-fouled player, won the most duels (13) and had the most tackles.

TRIO OPEN SCORING ACCOUNTS
Once again, the midfielders continued to sparkle. All the goals came from the middle of the park and all were debut goals too. Getting things started was Matthew Baldisimo, who unleashed a thunderous strike from distance to beat goalkeeper Yann-Alexandre Fillion. Formerly of Pacific FC, it was Baldisimo's first league goal in five years.

"I just saw the ball in the middle and I was looking and I saw the Halifax defender defending with his leg wide and just tried to shoot it through," he said about his goal.

"Honestly, I thought my other performances earlier in the season were better than this one. But I scored today, which is why you guys think it's better! But honestly, I thought I played better in other games this season."

The second goal came courtesy of Dutchman Oussama Alou - who assisted on the first goal, and the Brem Soumaoro slotted him into a gaping net from a rebound just after recess to confirm victory.

SOUM OF ALL PARTS
Brem Soumauro was deployed in his natural holding midfield role and he put on a show. The Liberia national team captain won 80% of his tackles, made nine recoveries and had two interceptions.

Nash rated his performance: "I thought Brem was really good today playing more in his natural position. I wanted to get him in midfield and I thought Paris [Gee] did a great job as centre-back considering it's not a natural position for him and that's fine, it worked well."
