'I DON'T KNOW IF THEY'VE EVER SEEN ME LOSE MY COOL LIKE THAT': FURIOUS NASH WANTS WEEKEND REACTION

The Nine Stripes suffered a 4-1 loss to Pacific FC and the Head Coach vented his anger at half-time.

TOUGH ONE TO TAKE

Martin Nash has revealed a firehose berating of his players at half-time sparked their stirred-up second half performance in Sunday’s Canadian Premier League defeat to Pacific FC in Langford, B.C.

York United were second-best on the pitch in the opening 45 minutes and that saw them go down 2-0 to goals from Amer Didic and Manny Aparicio at Starlight Stadium.

But The Nine Stripes readjusted after the interval and found their rhythm; limiting the threats of Pacific’s danger men, dominating the proceedings and creating excellent chances.

The incessant pressure paid off in the 55th minute when Kevin Dos Santos halved the deficit with a perfectly-flighted corner that beat Emil Gazdov at his near post. Following that, the momentum continued and both Austin Ricci and Brian Wright had excellent opportunities to completely turn the game on its head.

Nash admitted he was furious with his players' lethargic first half performance and had no option but to tear into them during the interval.

"[There was] a lot of yelling," he said. "To be honest. I had a bit of a go, called a few players out and asked for reaction. I don’t know if they have seen me lose my cool like that. But I think I got the reaction I wanted."

"[We] started the second half well. The way we need to play is that 30 minute spell up until they scored their third goal. That's the way we need to play for 90 minutes in every game and if we can do that we will get the results."

Goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos continued to captain the side in the absence of Roger Thompson and despite the result, the stand-in skipper is rallying his teammates to rediscover their form.

He said in his post-game speech: "We've just got to be better but it's still early in the season. We're not giving up, we're still confident in the group we have. We've got a good team."

York United are on the road on Saturday when they travel to Wanderers Grounds to face Halifax Wanderers.
