REACTION: NASH LAMENTS CHEAP MISTAKES AND MISSED CHANCES

Individual errors led to the concession of two goals and despite an admirable fightback, The Nine Stripes fell short in a 2-1 defeat.

Max Ferrari says Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Vancouver FC at York Lions Stadium in the Canadian Premier League feels like a slap in the face.

The versatile winger felt he and his teammates did enough - even though the performance could have been better - to salvage at least a point from the game.

After beating the same side in midweek in the Canadian Championship, the Nine Stripes were tipped for the points but were handed a cold dish by the expansion club.

Van FC shot into the two-zero lead before 20 minutes but saw it halved before the break when substitute Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy fired home from inside the box.

"I think everyone's disappointed, especially what we did to ourselves in the first 15 minutes," said Ferrari.

"There was definitely something left in that game and after that opening period I thought we were good. We reacted really well and scoring a goal right before half time sparked us. I thought the boys did well getting a big result on Wednesday. Today was a tough one, the first game was a tough one. But I think the boys really persevered especially in the second half. We showed the enthusiasm and we thought we could win this game. But I think we were unlucky."

The result leaves York United at the bottom of the table and Head Coach Martin Nash feels his boys gave away the points on a silver platter.

"We shot ourselves in the foot, gifted them two goals," Nash could not hide his disappointment at the post-match press conference.

He continued by saying: "Other than the two gifts, we probably did a lot of good today. We created a lot of chances, caused them a lot of problems. They were only really dangerous in transition when we gave the ball away."

"There's not much we can do without a lot of options and then your best player gifts them a goal right at the start when we probably should be one-nil up already. Then we had two glorious chances that we couldn't finish and then gave them another present. So, it wasn't a great start. It wasn't a great first 15 to 20 minutes."

Next on the schedule is a trip to the capital to face defending regular season champions Atletico Ottawa on Saturday, April 29, while The Nine Stripes return to York Lions Stadium on Friday, May 5 for a derby clash with local rivals Forge FC.
