DOMINANT DISPLAY SEES YORK UNITED EASE TO PRESEASON VICTORY OVER CF MONTREAL U23S

The Nine Stripes began an intensive few weeks with a 4-0 win.

York United FC blew off the cobwebs and took to the field for the first time since last October, though there wasn't a hint of rustiness on show as they eased to a commanding 4-0 preseason win over CF Montreal's Under-23 side.

With a substantial turnover of personnel in the past few months, there were still plenty of familiar faces as Martin Nash utilized his entire roster across 90 minutes of action.

From the off, The Nine Stripes dominated proceedings and created some decent opportunities as 2023 draft pick Chris Campoli went close on two separate occasions. Deadlock was broken later in the half when Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé found a rampaging Marki Voytsekhovskyy who kept his calm and dispatched expertly as he raced through on goal.

Later, Kevin Dos Santos brought plenty of energy and was heavily involved in proceedings. Firstly, after Oussama Alou cleverly slipped in Paris Gee down the right side, the winger connected perfectly with the subsequent low cross and sent a ferocious strike to the net.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN

Shortly after, Matthew Baldisimo found Dos Santos wide left. Cutting inside, he spotted the run of Trivine Esprit - another York draft pick - and the youngster made no mistake to extend the lead.

Baldisimo and Alou were involved once again before the end, combining to send Dos Santos through once more. Dropping his shoulder, he moved the ball to his favoured right boot and whipped a wonderful strike inside the near post.

So, an encouraging performance and Nash was particularly pleased with some technical aspects of his side's display.

"It was a good first test for our players against a young talented CF Montreal team," he said.

"We pressed well as a collective for large stretches of the match which is nice to see so early in preseason. It's always a bonus to keep a clean sheet and I felt there was plenty of defensive cohesion and sharpness. On the attacking side we were able to control the tempo when in possession and we made good, smart decisions. There was a shrewdness to how we operated offensively and I felt it was very apparent in the goals we scored. We picked our moments to create the best possible chances and and were ruthless when it mattered."

Next up for Nash's charges is a trip to the United States and a clash with Penn State University's Nittany Lions on Saturday, March 4.
