THERE WERE PLENTY OF GOALS AND SURPRISE RESULTS AS TEAMS CLINCHED PLAYOFF PLACES
IN AN ACTION-PACKED WEEKEND.
Simcoe County Rovers enjoyed a fruitful week in the Women's Premier Division
Thursday action
After a full fixture list in the Women’s Premier Division on Wednesday, Alliance United hosted Burlington in a rare
Thursday-night game to kick off the men’s Week 14 action. Jace Kotsopoulos scored very late to snatch a point
for the visitors in what finished an exciting 2-2 tie.
Friday night spotlight
Three L1O games took place on Friday night with reigning champions from both divisions in action.
Vaughan Azzurri moved themselves into the Men’s Premier Division playoff spots with their 2-1 victory against
St Catharines Roma Wolves. Christopher Campoli and Marcel Zajac both got on the scoresheet and Michael Solomon
found the back of the net for St Catharines Roma Wolves.
In our other men’s fixture Darby and ProStars shared the points in an entertaining 2-2 tie. The visitors thought
they had snatched the three points when Jordan Webb scored in the 88th-minute but Michael DiRienzo’s even later
equalizer for Darby ensured neither team left empty-handed.
In the Women’s Premier Division FC London hosted NDC Ontario for both team’s second game of the week.
April Lantaigne scored in the first half for the visitors, having scored twice to help her side beat Vaughan Azzurri
on Wednesday, but FC London got back into the game after the interval thanks to Lauren Rowe’s strike. The match
ended 1-1 with the point more valuable for FC London as they look to secure a playoff place.
Women’s teams clinch playoff spots
Women’s Premier Division leaders Vaughan Azzurri made the most of NDC Ontario’s dropped points by beating
Electric City 2-1. Jotam Chouhan scored the decisive goal to temporarily take the Azzurri five points clear.
North Toronto Nitros and Woodbridge Strikers confirmed their place in this season’s playoffs with 3-0 victories
on Saturday. The Nitros beat Darby at home, while Woodbridge secured their win away from home thanks
to Jayda Thompson’s impressive hat-trick.
Elsewhere, North Mississauga and Unionville Milliken played out a seven-goal thriller. The Panthers were
leading 4-1 heading into the final ten minutes of regular time, but a late Unionville Milliken double made
for a thrilling end to the game. The win means the Panthers are one point adrift of the top six.
Hamilton United also beat Tecumseh 1-0 to move ahead of their opponents in the bottom half of the table;
defender Makenna Williamson was the goal scorer and star performer of the game.
There were also eight men’s teams in action on Saturday, including division leaders Scrosoppi who hosted
Simcoe County Rovers. Scrosoppi raced into a three-goal lead, two from Tomasz Skublak who also assisted
the third, but Simcoe County Rovers were much improved after the break and scored two goals of their own.
They couldn’t find an equalizer and the win for Scrosoppi leaves them three points clear at the top
of the men’s standings.
Electric City reached the 30-point mark following their comfortable 3-0 win over North Mississauga.
The goals came from Bradley Heath and a Benjamin Vyfschaft brace, and the Peterborough side sit fourth
in the table.
Unionville Milliken also won 3-0 as the two bottom-placed sides faced off. The win is Unionville’s first
of the season and moves them ahead of BVB IA Waterloo who they beat on Saturday. There was also a goalless
tie between Master’s FA and FC London, each grabbing a point.

Dropped points for men’s top sides
There were eight L1O games on Sunday to close off the weekend, four in each Premier Division.
Blue Devils found themselves defeated for the second time in three matches in their contest with
Hamilton United. Elton Nyumah scored a brace and Ideal Shefqeti grabbed a goal as Hamilton shocked
the Oakville side and beat them 3-1.
Guelph United also dropped points on their visit to Burlington. The Bayhawks are in the hunt for a playoff
spot and made things difficult for their third-placed opponents; the match ended 1-1.
Continuing the trend of teams taking points from higher-placed opponents, Woodbridge Strikers won against
Alliance United. The 2-0 defeat sees Alliance drop from fifth place down to eighth, while Woodridge
strengthen their position in the hunt for a top division spot on the Road to 2024.
There was a five-goal contest between Windsor City and North Toronto Nitros. The Nitros overturned
a 2-0 deficit to beat their opponents 3-2 and move into the playoff positions.
NDC Ontario and FC London both responded to their tie earlier in the weekend as they both took to the
field for the third time in five days. It was a masterclass from NDC as they beat ProStars 10-1,
with Annabelle Chukwu notching her first five goals in L1O, to keep the pressure on leaders Vaughan.
FC London grabbed three goals away from home; Olivia Brown found the back of the net twice against
Blue Devils.
Elsewhere, hat-tricks continued as Courtney Chochol scored all the goals in Simcoe County Rovers’ 3-0
win against St Catharines Roma Wolves.
Guelph Union and Burlington played out a 1-1 tie, with Guelph just about holding on to that final
2024 Premier spot going into the last gameweek.
