THERE WERE SOME HIGH-SCORING WINS AND LANDMARK DEFEATS IN A CRAZY WEEK
OF PREMIER DIVISION ACTION.
Simcoe County Rovers picked up two wins from Week 10, overcoming Burlington and Unionville Milliken
The champions remain perfect
NDC Ontario continued to impress with another win on Friday evening, beating Electric City 3-0 at the Ontario Soccer Stadium
to temporarily move to the top of the Women’s Premier Division table and keep their impenetrable defense intact.
It was a successful evening too for Alliance United who kept pace with the leaders by beating Darby. Ava Beckett’s
second-half goal was enough for three points for the visitors.
In the men’s division St Catharines Roma Wolves held visitors Darby to a 2-2 tie; Antonio Agovski scored his second
of the game in the 89th minute to rescue a point for the hosts. It was Agovski’s fifth goal of the week after a hat-trick
against Hamilton United on Wednesday, yet Darby will be disappointed not to come away with three points as they aspire
to get closer to those Premier Division spots for 2024.
Sublime Simcoe County Rovers
Simcoe County Rovers enjoyed a devastating 9-1 win over Unionville Milliken on Saturday. The home side scored two goals
within the first seven minutes and didn’t look back with seven players on the scoresheet, including braces for Jevontae Layne
and Orlendis Benitez-Hernandez. They also won 4-1 against Burlington on Wednesday night.
Scrosoppi also took advantage of playing before current leaders Blue Devils and moved above them to end Saturday at the top
of the Men’s Premier Division. Their fans saw two goals from Tomasz Skublak, and strikes from Danny Medeiros and Mauro Lulli,
beating FC London 4-0.
There was a tight contest between Master’s FA and Sigma, but an early goal from the 2022 Men’s Premier Division Forward
of the Year Miles Green was enough for a Sigma victory that kept them in the playoff spots.
In the Women’s Premier Division Vaughan Azzurri took their place back at the top of the standings as they won on the road
at FC London. The hosts netted first and held onto their lead until half-time, but the Azzurri responded after the break
and ended the match as 2-1 winners, with Nia Fleming-Thompson scoring another goal in addition to her midweek brace against
North Toronto Nitros.
Top scorers North Toronto responded to that defeat by making sure they continued their productivity in front of goal.
They put five past ProStars with five different players on the scoresheet.
North Mississauga saw off Tecumseh with a 1-0 win, despite their opponents taking the field off the back of a 4-1 victory
against Unionville Milliken in midweek. The result means the Panthers now sit in sixth place, three points ahead of Tecumseh,
which could be crucial in the Road to 2024.

Defeat for Vaughan Azzurri
Sunday was a significant day in the Men’s Premier Division as champions Vaughan Azzurri lost an L1O regular-season match
for the first time since July 2019. Guelph United and the Azzurri both started the week without a loss on their record this
season, but Guelph were beaten 2-0 by Sigma midweek before putting the Azzurri to the sword in a 1-0 victory; Carter Robart
being an impenetrable figure between the sticks.
The result means Blue Devils are the only team yet to lose in the league this season. ProStars put up a fight but couldn’t
match the Oakville side and the match ended 3-2, with Blue Devils moving back to the top of the table.
North Toronto Nitros kept within a point of top spot as they thrashed BVB IA Waterloo 8-0, finding the back of the net four
times in each half, with eight different scorers getting in on the action.
Elsewhere, Burlington and Woodbridge Strikers shared the points as they played out a 1-1 tie and Alliance United and Electric City
couldn’t be separated as their game ended 2-2. Windsor City also defied the Prediction Poll odds to win 2-1 at Hamilton United.
In the Women’s Premier Division we had four games to end the weekend action. Woodbridge Strikers could only manage a draw against
Simcoe County Rovers; the result keeps them fifth in the standings.
Guelph Union and St Catharines Roma Wolves played out an entertaining 2-2 tie as Guelph came from behind twice. Hamilton United
also shone against Blue Devils with defenders Bryanna Caldwell and Makenna Williamson on the scoresheet in a 3-1 victory.
Unionville Milliken also defeated Burlington in a battle at the bottom end of the table. It was the hosts’ third win
of the season and they responded well to 4-1 defeat against Tecumseh on Wednesday.
