TEAMS AT THE TOP OF THE TABLES CONTINUED TO SHOW THEIR QUALITY AS WE HIT THE HALFWAY MARK IN THE WOMEN’S PREMIER DIVISION.
NDC Ontario have taken the lead in the Women's Premier Division standings
Bumper week
There were six midweek games in the Women’s Premier Division with NDC Ontario, FC London, and Woodbridge Strikers
all winning 4-0 against Darby, Simcoe County Rovers, and Hamilton United respectfully.
It was also a dominant display from Electric City on Friday night as they beat St Catharines Roma Wolves. Anne Ibey
opened the scoring in the first half before Kayla McQueen and Natalie Coscarella sealed the Peterborough side’s fourth
victory in five matches.
In the Men’s Premier Division, Darby hosted Master’s FA and got back to winning ways having lost their last six matches.
Christopher Badibengi shone with a first-half brace for the home team.
NDC Ontario remain perfect
NDC Ontario continued their flawless start to the campaign on Saturday as they beat Unionville Milliken 2-0, cementing
their position at the top of the table following their midweek victory. The champions have now won eight games in a row,
scored 16 goals, and conceded none.
North Toronto Nitros were the only other women’s side to win on Saturday; they narrowly saw off Guelph Union with
Serita Thurton’s strike deciding the game and keeping the Nitros in the chase at the top of the table.
Blue Devils and Darby played out a 1-1 draw; the Oakville side needed a late equaliser from Laura Twidle to rescue a point
after winning a topsy-turvy game against Guelph on Wednesday. FC London and Hamilton United also tied as the defences came
out on top in a goalless game.
In the Men’s Premier Division five games took place, three of which ended level. Despite being more than 85 per cent
favourites to win in our Twitter prediction poll, Sigma failed to temporarily take top spot as they dropped points against
North Mississauga who came from behind twice to grab a point.
Vaughan Azzurri moved four points off the division leaders Blue Devils with two games in hand. Kuhle Bekwayo scored first
for FC London, but the Azzurri fought back with Christopher Campoli and Ryan Robinson netting.
North Toronto Nitros’ men’s side matched their Women’s Premier Division equivalents by also picking up three points.
Their 3-1 win over Unionville Milliken keeps them in the hunt for the playoffs in a heavily congested top half of the table.
ProStars and Woodbridge couldn’t be separated as their matchup ended 1-1, and the game between Hamilton United
and Electric City ended goalless.
Top two make their mark
Blue Devils went into the weekend at the top of the Men’s Premier Division and showed their quality, scoring six goals past
BVB IA Waterloo. Adam Czerkawski led the way with a hat-trick while Kevin Sinclair scored two and Mathew Santos got on the scoresheet.
The result keeps Blue Devils at the summit but they are tied on points with Scrosoppi, who won an extraordinary game against
fellow high-flyers Burlington. Scrosoppi conceded first but were 3-1 up at half-time, and made it 4-1 before the Bayhawks pulled
the score back to 4-3. The visitors had the last laugh by scoring their fifth goal, and Burlington dropped to fifth in the standings.
Windsor City were at home to playoff contenders Simcoe County Rovers and beat them 2-1 in a surprise victory, Jonathan Agapito
scoring a brace to help his side end a four-game winless run. Guelph United moved into the top three with their 2-1 victory
against St Catharines Roma Wolves.
Woodbridge Strikers put in the performance of the day in the Women’s Premier Division as they beat ProStars 6-1 for their fifth
win in a row. Defender Jayda Thompson was played as a striker and had an outstanding game, scoring two goals in each half.
Burlington won 2-1 against Tecumseh with Leah Homan securing three points for her side. North Mississauga and Simcoe County Rovers
remain a point apart in the table after their tie; Courtney Chochol gave the home team an initial advantage but Kyra Kotsopoulos
levelled the contest for the Panthers.
Points were also shared between Alliance United and BVB IA Waterloo. Both scored in the first half but neither could find
a winner after the break.
There’s a heavyweight clash still to come in the Men’s Premier Division as Vaughan Azzurri and Alliance United go head-to-head
on Tuesday.
