Final Score:...Scrosoppi FC........4........FC London.......0.....
Attendance started at 30 and built to about 70 by about halftime. I thought the earlier start (the last home game they had was here with a 9:00pm start) would attract more fans but they haven't played a home game since that May 13 game. This was only their third home game vs seven so far on the road so maybe their fans haven't caught on. This year they are playing 53 km away from their home stadium in Milton because it's undergoing a renovation/rebuild along with the high school grounds and building. Scrosoppi would be a good team for the neutral fan to get behind if they want to see an 'All Star/Mike's Mercenaries' assembled team as they have three home games in the next four weeks with a 'Saturday at 6:00pm' start. Even I was saying 'wow' for some of the backheelers, dekes, flicks, and give-and-gos I saw today. Scrosoppi got off to a dream start with that early goal and an insurance goal in the one minute of added time in the first half. London goalie Murasiranwa kept his team in the game or Tomasz Skublak alone could have doubled his total or any of the other Scrosoppi forwards. Andres Vaikla earned the shutout for Scrosoppi with a few stops and was helped by some timely checks and blocks by the defensive line of Carlo Difeo, Joshua Parades, Luke Rankin, and captain Victor Gallo. Interesting that goalies Murasiranwa and Vaikla both played for the now defunct CPL FC Edmonton last season. Vaikla appeared 21 times and Murasiranwa 8 in 2022. I was not surprised that ex-York United FC defender Jordan Wilson was not in the lineup for Scrosoppi with his commitments to his gig at OneSoccer. That broadcaster was showing two CPL games this afternoon with at least two commentators/contributors currently away in Las Vegas for the CONCACAF Nations League finals leaving them short. The L1O site lists the two games he's played as on a Tuesday night and a Friday night. It was good to see John Yacou on the bench as head coach of Scrosoppi. Early in the season I saw him in pregame preparations for a game against Darby FC but then he disappeared by game time. He was serving a suspension but that I heard was it was for 'all season' must have been an exageration or was still undergoing the appeals process (he was head coach of ProStars FC last season) but today confirmed with a Scrosoppi staff member it was only four games after an incident in their season opener against Vaughan Azzurri. Referee David Barrie gave out three Yellow cards in the game (two to London) with mostly freeflowing action. I wasn't expecting to see him with all his CPL and MLS NEXT Pro action. The result improve Scrosoppi's record to 8 wins, 2 losses, 0 ties for 24 points and they take over first place. There are still six games on Sunday and only Blue Devils FC can catch them at 24 points but Scrosoppi would still rank higher with one more win. Scrosoppi finished twelfth last season and are ensuring they will finish in the Top 12 for the upcoming division split that takes effect in 2024 as they climb the combined 2022/2023 table. A top six spot this year also ensures a playoff berth and if they win the playoff rounds they'd be league champions and win the one L1O spot in the 2024 Canadian Championhip. FC London's record falls to 1 win, 6 losses, 2 ties for 5 points. This was the first time they'd allowed more than two goals in a game. Their 13 goals against (until today) ranked them as seventh best in the league. An 8 'goals for' is anchoring them near the bottom of the league. They stay in eighteenth place in the twenty-one teams. A post game audio interview I'd set up with London head coach Yiannis Tsalatsidis was blown off. The second time he's done that.Rocket Robin
