YORK UNITED FC ANNOUNCES PERMANENT SIGNING OF CANADIAN MIDFIELDER MATTHEW BALDISIMO The 24-year-old spent the latter half of last season on loan with the club. York United FC is excited to announce the permanent signing of Canadian midfielder Matthew Baldisimo. The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal, plus a club option. The Vancouver native had initially arrived in August on loan from Pacific FC and although injury interrupted his ability to accumulate a significant amount of game time over the remaining few months of the season, he still managed to return before the campaign came to an end. There were a pair of substitute appearances late on against Valour FC and Forge FC, while he made his first start in The Nine Stripes' final league game of 2022: the 2-2 away draw with Atletico Ottawa. "Baldi has had a couple of seasons disrupted by injuries and the loan deal we reached with Pacific last season was the perfect situation for us to bring him in, take a look and see how he would fit in our environment," says Angus McNab, York United FC's CEO/President and GM. "I love the fact he’s made a choice to come here and really wanted to keep working with the staff. He's spoken about how much he enjoyed his time with us last year and that’s a real credit to what Nashy is building within the group." Baldisimo brings some impressive experience with him to the club, with over 100 professional appearances across various competitions in Canada and the United States to his name. After a few years with the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy, Baldisimo spent two seasons in the United Soccer League (USL) with Whitecaps FC 2. In 2018, he remained in the USL and signed for Fresno FC, playing a handful of games in the league and US Open Cup. He joined Pacific FC in 2019 and made 56 appearances in all competitions, winning the Canadian Premier League title with the club in 2021. "Mathew is one of the top holding midfielders in the CPL," says Head Coach Martin Nash. "He's excellent in possession, with a good passing range too. Another very strong addition for us." He becomes the latest off-season signing for York United FC, following the confirmed acquisitions of Elijah Adekugbe, Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé, Lassana Faye and Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy. #WEAREUNITED COME WATCH MATTHEW TAKE TO THE PITCH WITH THE NINE STRIPES IN 2023.
