AFTER TWO SUPERB SEASONS, DOMINICK ZATOR DEPARTS THE NINE STRIPES The 28-year-old has signed for Korona Kielce in the Polish top-flight. York United FC can confirm the departure of defender Dominick Zator after a two-year spell. The 28-year-old has signed for Polish top-flight outfit Korona Kielce and leaves a lasting legacy on The Nine Stripes. Arriving ahead of the 2021 campaign, the centre-back proved instrumental in the club's eventual run to the Canadian Premier League playoffs. In just his second appearance - a 2-2 draw with Pacific FC - he wore the captain's armband for the first time in the absence of Roger Thompson. He would go on to skipper the side a further 12 times in all competitions: a reflection of the immediate respect he commanded in the locker room. He finished his debut season with 27 appearances to his name, scoring once in a 2-1 victory over Valour FC. Zator was arguably even more impressive in 2022. An ever-present, only a late calf cramp picked up in a superb away win over reigning league champions Pacific FC, spoiled an otherwise impeccable appearance record. He started every CPL and Canadian Championship game (as the team memorably made an excellent run to the semi-finals of the national cup competition) and managed 2,776 minutes of action. Zator captained the team a further 13 times and displayed impeccable leadership qualities when an injury crisis derailed York's season, remaining a standout performer even when points were hard to come by. Zator finished the season with one goal and one assist, both standout moments in their own right. With his side trailing 2-1 to Atletico Ottawa at York Lions Stadium in the fourth game of the campaign back in April, he controlled an in-swinging free-kick, turned and drilled a shot inside the near post for a last-gasp equalizer. Later in the season, during an emergency stint at left-back, he sent in an inch-perfect cross for Mo Babouli to finish to the net and level affairs away to Pacific FC. His performances ensured he was inevitably one of three players shortlisted for the CPL's inaugural Defender of the Year award. He leaves the club having accumulated 58 appearances in all competitions, two goals, one assist and over 5,000 minutes of action. "Dom has been a fantastic member of the squad for the last two years," says Angus McNab, York United FC's CEO/President and GM. "We knew when he came to our club that he had ambitions to play overseas and we’ve always tried to support him here. I’m very happy for Dom but, at the same time, I’m gutted to lose both the player and the person." © 2022 YORK UNITED FC
