OSAZE DE ROSARIO SHORTLISTED FOR CPL’S BEST CANADIAN UNDER-21 PLAYER AWARD The striker enjoyed a superb debut season and his 12 league goals is a club record. After a magnificent debut campaign that saw him score a club record 12 league goals, York United FC striker Osaze De Rosario has been nominated for the CPL's Best Canadian Under-21 Player award. Forced to flee Ukrainian club Rukh Lviv earlier this year due to the outbreak of war, the 21-year-old found himself back in Toronto and began training with The Nine Stripes. His contributions during pre-season led to a contract and he never looked back once the campaign began. He found the net in only his second appearance for the side - a 1-1 draw in Edmonton - before scoring in the next two league games, against Cavalry and Atletico Ottawa. When the team found themselves in the midst of an injury crisis and results suffered accordingly, De Rosario still pushed hard from the front and grabbed a crucial game-winner in Calgary in late-July. Shortly after, he managed a memorable brace away to HFX Wanderers in an excellent 4-2 victory, securing the CPL Player of the Week award for his troubles. Further highlights included a poacher's finish in the 3-1 win at Forge FC, a special strike in another win over FC Edmonton and the towering header in his side's most recent affair: the 2-2 draw in Ottawa. In total, De Rosario managed 12 goals in 27 appearances and also contributed four assists, while he was named to the CPL's Team of the Week on six occasions. Forge FC’s Woobens Pacius and Valour FC’s Sean Rea have also been shortlisted for the award, which will be voted on by select media members. The winner will be revealed at an in-person ceremony during the league’s 2022 Finals Weekend. © 2022 YORK UNITED FC
