'DRAWS AND LOSSES DON'T DO US ANY FAVOURS': NASH SET FOR MORE RISKS WITH SIX GAMES LEFT

The Gaffer made a string of late attacking changes in Calgary that almost paid dividends.

Martin Nash does not expect Saturday’s 1-0 away defeat to Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League
to dampen the competitive spirit.

The Nine Stripes put up a brave fight but were downed by Jose Escalantes’s second half goal at ATCO Field.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, the boss said:

"We've just got to put our heads down and just try to win every game we can. I took a risk towards
at the end and played with two [number] 10s - three in the end actually - and just tried to get back
in the game. Draws and losses don't do us any favours so we're gonna go for every game and see how
many we can win."

"To be quite honest, I thought defensively we were quite good today once we went down a goal you had
to take some risks. I was toying with a few ideas but because we have some good players that play
in the pocket, I decided to go with Mikey in the pocket and sacrifice Noah and get someone higher
up the pitch. I think it worked as far as creating chances but we just weren't able to find
the equalizer."

But the Nine Stripes did not go down easily and twice came close to finding the back of the net late on.

The first attempt came on 85 minutes from substitute Lisandro Cabrera, who was sent through on goal
by Kevin Dos Santos' clever pass in behind. However, with only goalkeeper Marco Carducci to beat,
the Argentine dragged his shot agonizingly wide of the far corner.

Later, Sebastián Gutiérrez - another second half replacement - slipped the ball inside to Mo Babouli
before continuing his run into the right channel and picking up the inch-perfect return pass. But,
the diminutive Colombian went for power over placement and ultimately smashed his effort against
the frame of Carducci.

Nash added: "We've been playing well lately and we've scored a lot of goals so Cavalry did a good
job of limiting our chances. I thought it was a pretty even game. They had a bit more possession but
if you look at the chances and the shots, it was very even. But the difference was they finished
their chance while we didn’t."

York United remain on the road and will face Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium on 3 September.
