'EVERY STREAK NEEDS TO BE BROKEN AT SOME POINT' - NINE STRIPES LOOK TO MAKE BIG STATEMENT IN CALGARY York United take on the league leaders Cavalry FC tonight. Gaffer Martin Nash says he has everyone singing from the same hymn sheet as The Nine Stripes mount another quest tonight to end their slide against in-form and current league leaders Calvary FC on the road. This is the third meeting between the two sides this term and it’s been one win apiece, with both previous encounters played at York Lions Stadium. The impending assignment is a mammoth task; to throw spokes in the wheels of a side that have won all of the last five matches at ATCO Field and are unbeaten in 11 matches: a franchise record. But, Nash has told his charges to believe in their qualities and take no prisoners when they step on the field. "We can't worry about them and their streaks. Every streak needs to be broken at some point so I'm not worrying about the outside effects. I'm worried only about us and what we can do," a confident Nash said in his pre-game press conference. "We're gonna worry about how we set up and play our own game and know that we're gonna have to work for 90 minutes - every single minute - to get a result. But what a great chance we have to break a streak against a team that's on a really good run." York United are without a league win in ten matches and go into the game as underdogs but Nash insists they won’t be pushovers. He was encouraged by the performance against Pacific, certainly one of the team's better games in attack this term. But losing the lead twice and seeing the Tridents run out 4-2 winners was difficult to stomach. "It was fine margins but it's been that way all season," Nash said on Friday. "We seem to find a way to make the mistake or not score the goal. It’s been a funny season and at least now we've got some options and we can change the game a little bit and bring some players in whereas we couldn't before. But I don't want to lose the defensive identity that we have. We’ve got to find a way to get back to that and work on it because I think that's got to be a staple for a young team like ours. You can't give away silly goals or cheap goals." Against Pacific, Nash's charges scored more than one goal in a league game for only the third time this season. One of those games was back on April 22nd when York United delivered a masterclass against Cavalry FC and conjured a 2-0 win: a performance they have yet to top this term. Once again, they'll need something special against Tommy Wheeldon Junior's side and Nash can at least see some momentum in the attacking third. "I think we've done a good job now in creating chances, we are getting into better areas and I think we still have to work to get in behind and put pressure on them. You can't just sit back and soak up pressure for 90 minutes against them. You will have to possess the ball and try and create and put them on the back foot when you can," he added. Tonight’s clash at Spruce Meadows will see duo Jordan Wilson and Mateo Hernandez available after missing the last fixture against Pacific FC due to yellow card accumulation. Also, Michael Petrasso, who marked his return after a two-month injury layoff with a cameo appearance last Friday, is ready to give more minutes to the team. But Max Ferrari has been ruled out after hobbling off following a collision in the second half against Pacific. Unlike a few weeks ago when The Nine Stripes were seriously understaffed, The Gaffer is excited at the options he now has including Luis Laurie-Lattanzio, Kevin Dos Santos, Lowell Wright and Lisandro Cabrebra who all started from the bench last week. "It's exciting to have subs come on and I might even have to leave some players out of the squad which would be new,’’ Nash said, with a laugh. "It's good to have some fresh bodies in the squad and the ability to make changes and impact the game. Hopefully, it could be the first time I get to use my five substitutes in a game." OPPONENT WATCH: Calvary have amassed 28 points with a 8-4-2 record and have opened a three-point lead at the top. David Norman Jr returns from suspension after serving the final of a two-match ban in their last encounter against Halifax Wanderers. Cavs captain Mason Trafford is nursing a knee injury.
