PREVIEW: 'WE'RE GONNA GET BACK ON TRACK', SAYS DEFIANT NASH AHEAD OF PACIFIC CLASH The second half of the 2022 season officially starts tonight for York United. We are at the halfway stage of the 2022 Canadian Premier League and The Gaffer wants his York United players to end their bad run with immediate effect tonight against third-placed Pacific FC. There has been a navel-gazing exercise at York Lions Stadium after the Nine Stripes went without a win in nine league matches. Also, the side's last two home matches have ended in defeats [against Valour and Forge] and the decay requires a rapid response. Despite falling behind the chasing pack for a playoff spot, Martin Nash is defiant he can get his augmented squad sparkling again like they did in the first two months of the season. "I'm just trying to stay positive because there are a lot of positives. We've had a lot of quality performances, we've just not come away with the points so we've got to turn some of those draws into wins in the second half [of the season]," Nash confidently said in his pre-match conference. "We're gonna get back on track and integrate new players into the team. We've almost changed half the team out of necessity, through injury and everything else so it's been a bit of a bumpy road in some respects with all the injuries and departures but we got to stay positive." "We have quality players in this group. They’ve got to be confident in their ability and we're going to try to give them that confidence and give them enough freedom to play and enjoy it but also be strict enough that we are good defensively, we’re solid and we’re doing the right things." "I think it's still worth playing for the second half of the season and if we could put in another good performance and manage to get three points then it would be massive for this group and will hopefully see a turn in our fortunes." The two previous league meetings with the Tridents this term ended in goalless draws and so this latest clash should be a tiebreaker. York United’s achilles heel has been its low conversation rate. They have been creating scoring chances but paradoxically, they've managed just one goal in their last nine matches. Nash revealed they have been back to the drawing board this week to try and sharpen their arsenals. "I think we're still working on our offensive play," he added. "We thought we created enough chances in the game [against Forge]. We had some really good chances, we just didn’t hit the target and didn’t make the keeper work so we've worked on attacking play and some patterns." OPPONENT WATCH: The defending league champions are on a 6-5-4 record and two points behind joint-leaders Cavalry and Atlético Ottawa. James Merriman’s side have won two matches out of seven on the road and so have the know-how for away matches. Pacific's last encounter was a close-shave 3-2 win at FC Edmonton.
