REACTION: WILSON ISSUES RALLYING CALL AFTER FRUSTRATING HOME LOSS

Friday's 2-0 defeat to Forge FC saw The Nine Stripes create plenty of chances once again.

The Nine Stripes fell short again on Friday after a painful 2-0 home defeat to rivals Forge FC
in the 905 derby at York Lions Stadium.

Head Coach Martin Nash refreshed his starting XI with a pair of recent recruits handed their debuts;
Ronan Kratt on the left wing and centre-back Tass Mourdoukoutas.

The latter had a debut to remember and showed plenty of strength and composure throughout. But just
shy of the half-hour mark, Tristan Borges’ strike from outside the area ricocheted off the Aussies'
right foot and completely wrong-footed Niko Giantsopoulos for the opening goal.

Max Ferrari started as a makeshift left-back while Jordan Wilson reverted to his role in midfield,
marshalling in front of the back four, but York United could not rebound after last week’s 3-0 defeat
at FC Edmonton.

"The message was that it wasn’t good enough in the end, again," Head Coach Martin Nash revealed
at the post-match conference when quizzed on what he had told his troops after the match.

He added: "We can create all the chances we want but if we can’t put the ball in the net we are not
going to win games. So you ask people to step up because I think we do enough in a lot of games to win.
We get a bunch of opportunities, great chances. We had a bunch of 0-0 games this year that we should
have won, in my opinion, but enough is enough. We have to have guys step up, take the bull by the horns
and put chances away."

York United are now one point above basement boys FC Edmonton with a 0-3-6 record in their last nine
matches in the league.

Veteran Jordan Wilson admitted in his post-match comments that the patchy run has dampened team spirit
but believes they have the credentials to reverse the trend.

"The locker room right now is tough and it's tough because we haven’t been winning, we've gone
two months without a win," he said.

"I can’t remember a time in my life when that has happened. In another [league] we are in the relegation
zone so the vibes aren’t really there. But I’ve said to the boys that I do not want to go three months
playing dud games, games that don’t matter. So let’s try to rally together now and have at least a push
for playoffs."

York United are back in action against Pacific FC at home this Friday, 15 July.
